Like the labradoodle we need new words to express being bamboozled by spam or spin whatever you prefer. Current political thinking seems to be more about PR and less about policies. Sure what do policies matter when people are too fagged out trying to work, shop, eat, ferry kids around and so on...We all bought into individualism (competition or deregulation) without really understanding the implications of it. The PD policies with full Fianna Fail backing are ruining this country. Destroying the public services have led to every bit of community orientated infrastructure falling apart. Competition or deregulation doesn't benefit the ordinary person. It benefits the rich to line their pockets further. We are the ones being fooled to the enth degree and the worst kind of fool is the one that doesn't know he's a fool.

Privatisation ONLY suits the wealthy. Low tax regimens give the illusion of control over the money in your pocket but ask yourself what do you get for that money? A good health service you can afford? A good transport system you can afford? A good education system you can afford? The list is endless...The Grand Illusion! Meanwhile all the public service cuts are forcing people into the private sector using outright propaganda against public service workers, the vast majority who do very good work. Goebbels would be proud...he said '...if you repeat the lie often enough people will believe it.' The Quangos that have been set up by government to distance themselves from what THEY themselves are doing is the ultimate spindoctoring. People do however still have voting power. This cynical type of PR power, which emerged from the US needs to be halted before it completely destroys what is good about us as Irish people. Democracy is no longer a true democracy if only a few vested interests are really running the country. Politicians (who are mostly intelligent and of sound mind!) are allowing themselves freely to be bought (directly or indirectly). It is no wonder that people loose trust in politics. But that is the irony. Low voting numbers well suits the vested interests. Apathy is the enemy of ideas and change. Wake up people, quickly, before its too late! Or....just buy a bigger plasma TV and all that goes with that.

Nu finns ingen återvändo! Inslängd i examinationsmappen på FC. Hua.

Usch.

* UTV = institutionen för Utbildningsvetenskap
** Referenssystemet där man använder fotnötter. Förlåt, fotnotar.
*** HUM = institutionen för Humaniora

photo: interior "urban living room"

This photo appeared in the architectural journal, El Croquis as part of a mopnograph on Rem Koolhaas/OMA, where an extensive profile of this building is featured. It depicts the "urban living room" on SCL's 3rd floor.

As you can see, the landscape orientation of the photo, spreading across two pages, focuses on a horizon where the glass skin meets the floor. Shot from a high angle (5th floor) and using an extremely wide-angle lens, as evidenced by the distortion in the foreground, this is an image of the building as landscape. People move through this landscape — their movement is evidenced also by distortion — but they are clearly not the subjects of this image. All of the dramatic diagonal lines lead the eye to a center where there are no people at all.

The dominant visual feature of the images is those diagonal lines, which cover almost the entire image and give the distinct impression of a net, as if a visual metaphor for a network, which is one of the dominant metaphors for society in the information age.

This image could also be said to express Bordieu’s explanation of “the true object of social science” which is not the individual, but the field. In this image, the individuals exist “as agents - not as biological individuals, actors, or subjects - who are socially constructed as active and acting in the field.” The field here being, graphically and dramatically, the library building itself.

There is further evidence of this conception of human individuals as agents in the field that is the building in the conceptual imagery and in the video-lecture by Joshua Prince-Ramus, the architect in charge of construction.
