Bullet For My Valentine var ett av förbanden när Guns N' Roses rockade loss i Globen sommaren 2006. Skruffo fattade ingenting. Skruffo ville ju se Axl. Nu, cirka två år senare, fattar Skruffo precis. Bullet For My Valentine rockar. Deras två fullängdare The Poison och Scream Aim Fire går därför varma i Skruffos iPod denna höst. Det borde de göra i din med.

Vill man se Bullet For My Valentine live kommer de för övrigt till Sverige i början av december. De spelar i Stockholm, Lund och Göteborg. Skruffo ser dem i Lund.

I’m coming home,
I’ve been gone for far too long.
Do you remember me at all?
I’m leaving,
Have I fucked things up again?
I’m dreaming,
Too much time without you spent.

It hurts,
Wounds so sore.
Now I’m torn,
Now I’m torn.

I’ve been far away,
When I see your tits,
My dick bursts into fire.
Dicks burst into fire.

You’re not alone,
I know I’m far for home.
Do you remember me at all?
I’m leaving,
Do you wait for me again?
I’m screaming,
No more days without you spent.

It hurts,
Wounds so sore.
Now I’m torn,
Now I’m torn.

I’ve been far away,
When I see your tits
My dick bursts into fire.
Dicks burst into fire.

My bed, so cold, so lonely.
No arms, just sheets to hold me.
Has this world stopped turning?
Are we forever to be apart?
Forever to be apart.

It hurts,
Wounds so sore.
Now I’m torn,
Now I’m torn.

All That Remains - Overcome [Review]

Overcome is the fourth full-length studio release from Springfield’s (MA) own All That Remains

Overcome is the fourth full-length studio release from Springfield's (MA) own All That Remains, one of the heavy hitters on Prosthetic Records' solid lineup. Overcome's release date was officially September 16, 2008. The album's first single will be "Chiron" and will be one of the downloadble songs for Rock Band, along with "Two Weeks".

First off, let's start with what this album did right. They capitalized on one of the few shortcomings of The Fall of Ideals, being that the new album is consistent, and does not have any overly strong or weak points. Overcome also has some really good songwriting, and makes use of some really great melodies. My favorite examples of this is the clean vocal melody in the song "Two Weeks" [track 2] or the guitar parts in "Before the Damned" [track 1] when there are no vocals (pre-verse, about 22 seconds in).

That about covers the good things about this album. Now to begin the bash-fest that will be this review from here on out.

The first thing I want to address is the vocals. The melodic vocals sound AWFUL. I really want to know what the hell happened to Philip Labonte's voice, or why the decision was made to change the way they were. The screaming/growling vocals are very sub-par throughout the album, but are at times just as fantastic as those from The Fall of Ideals. In some instances the screaming/growling sound almost like clones from previous albums ("Before The Damned" could easily have been from The Fall of Ideals). Most cases of the more intense vocals are simply yelling, though, similar to the new Bullet For My Valentine approach. It worked for them, but certainly doesn't fit for All That Remains.

The next issue is that the intensity is turned way down on this album. It's still heavy and aggressive. but lacks the "oomph" that they used to have, and none of the songs hit that hard. Obviously the biggest example of something missing from Overcome are vocals like the opening few seconds of "This Calling" [Track 1 from TFoI]. There are no longer visceral, blood-curdling screams. The guitars are no longer as intense, either. They took off a bit of the crunchiness from the guitar sound, although the style of the more rhythmic picking is still as solid (although used less frequently).

All in all, the album shows some potential, but feels overly polished and refined (well done, Jason Suecof). All That Remains have lost their edge it seems. With it's overly consistent mediocrity, I found it hard to get into this as an album. Granted, there were a couple songs that caught my attention, those songs were addressed in the only paragraph about the good. A pleasant and un-engaging album, because of this there was not much to say about it.

Track picks: "Before the Damned" and "Chiron" (the only tracks that had balls on the album, and the songs that still give me a glimpse of hope that ATR still have it)

Overall score: 5/10 devil horns

As many St. Louisans know, the 23rd Pointfest festival was held this past Saturday. Pointfest is an outdoor music festival put on by radio station KPNT 105.7 The Point. 2008 saw a Spring and a Fall Pointfest, both of which your writer attended with her sharp-shootin' camera. There were 29 bands scheduled to play, but since they covered 5 stages simutaneously and omnipresence is not one of my strong skills, I coudn't get em' all. Here are some samples of what I got:

[caption id="attachment_92" align="aligncenter" width="432" caption="Shinedown in St. Louis. © Angie Knost.
Shinedown frontman Brent Smith shows no signs of tooth decay. This band should be recommended by the American Dental Association.

[caption id="attachment_110" align="aligncenter" width="289" caption="Sick Puppies in St. Louis. ©Angie Knost 2008.
This was the second time I shot Austrailia's Sick Puppies. Photographing bass player Emma Anzai is not one of the easier things I've done; she's an energy powerhouse, slapping the bass and flailing her two-tone hair headbanger-style, faster than a kangaroo can kick you.

Bullet For My Valentine shot here all the way from Wales. The stage was steeped in red lighting for their whole set. Very, very red. Very Valentiny.

If you close your eyes and listen to the heavy metal band Black Tide, you likely wouldn't guess that two of these guys are still in highschool (they were 8 and 10 years old when the band was founded!). Don't let the youthful faces mislead you; these pups can bark with the big dogs. They were arguably one of the most proficient bands at the festival. And if there was a 'best hair' award, this guy would undoubtedly get my vote!

This southern-rock-metal band with the biblically inspired name 'Saving Abel' rocked the crowd with big hats and Mississippi magnetism.

If you have never seen Apocalyptica live, you are really missing something. In short, 4 classically trained cellists from Finland and a drummer sweat out Metallica classics and original metal songs at a break-neck speed. The dazzling lightshow and volitant hair have a mesmerizing effect that is both soothing and forceful at the same time.

Raramente mi capitano anni in cui ascolto album "perfetti" ossia che contengono solo canzoni di buona o eccellente qualità (niente "lati B" insomma)...

I was reminded over the weekend just how valuable libraries truly are. I often wonder if people truly take advantage of what libraries have to offer. For starters, I can't tell you how much money I have saved by checking out a CD which turns out to be mediocre, or simply not worth buying. On the other hand, I have experienced discovering new artists I should invest in, or listening to an album I should have done a LONG time ago. I think I mentioned before that I have worked for several libraries over the years, so I understand how they work and how to find what I am looking for.

I think libraries are underused and under funded, and librarians aren't given enough credit for what they do. I should know. Libraries used to be a place for research, but the Internet has transformed how libraries function, what the carry, and how we search for information. Now, libraries are a gathering place to find information, a virtual world for discovering plenty of undiscovered reading treasures, and entertainment. Yes, entertainment! Just to prove my point, a few years ago my wife and I attended a workshop on how to make all sorts of delicious treats, aka chocolate goodies, from a professional chef.

What libraries has also morphed. The library I grew up with never had sound recording or movies for pleasure. Anything it did include of that nature, was mainly for educational purposed. Now, many libraries carry all sorts of music, movies and other fun items. Granted, this isn't a Blockbuster or an F.Y.E store, but depending on your local library, you might be very surprised what you find. I found all sorts of musical treasures over the years.

My most recent adventure was to conduct some research for a blog post, or series of blog posts, I haven't decided yet. Lately, I have been thinking about concept albums, rock operas, and that sort of thing. I felt compelled to listen to Tommy by The Who, something I probably should have done a long time ago. (Yes, I know; sacrilege that I haven't heard the album until now. Better late than never. Moving on...)

While I was there I also happened to pickup the following:

Ghosts I-IV by Nine Inch Nails

The Poison from Bullet For My Valentine

Hernando by North Mississippi Allstars

And an album from Crossfade that I can't recall the title at the moment

Thus far I have only listened to the Nine Inch Nails and Bullet For My Valentine. While the Nine Inch Nails album is interesting, I holding off my discussion about it because I plan to talk about it a later time. I just started listening to Tommy today, but I am not sure when I will write about it. I may need a little more research and some listening refreshers.

Bullet For My Valentine was less than impressive. I initially heard this group on Headbanger's Ball and thought they might be worth checking out. Well I am glad I checked this album out from the library and I will be able to return it, because it really isn't worth paying for. The band has chops but lacks originality. The album sounded very repetitive with similar riffs between a majority of the tracks, with a sound that reminded me of a blend between Trivium and Atreyu. I don't mind Atreyu or Trivium, but I expect to something that sounds different from every band.

I am looking forward to listening to North Mississippi Allstars. I had the privilege of hearing these guys while interning at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and they simply rocked. I have another album from them, which I love. Fundage is low, otherwise I would invest in more of their albums.

The bottom line is simple, we should take better advantage of the resources available to us. Especially when hard earned tax dollars are used to fund such resources.

Two months ago, I had no worries. Lovely summer days stretched out in front of me and seemed to be never-ending. I went to sleep in the early AMs, and woke up in the early PMs. Every awakening was peaceful with the summer sun shining in my window and the birds chirping happily. It is all coming to an end.

Tomorrow is my last day of summer vacation in the year of two thousand eight. On Wednesday everyone around me will get up between six o'clock and seven (possibly even before then) to get ready for a long day of school. Getting up on a weekday and staying in my pajamas until it's time to take a shower will not be happening anymore after tomorrow. Sitting around and reading page after page will no longer be possible. Next week at this time I won't even be home yet. School, cross country practice, home for an hour to eat, and then musical practice until either nine or ten o'clock.

Yes, I am prepared. I am planning on using my Study Hall and lunch period times wisely. Lunch will (once again) be at ten in the morning... No point in eating breakfast, right? I am excited for a new year to begin, but I will miss boredom. No boredom will be allowed once the school year begins.

I am not looking forward to seeing people I don't like everyday. During the summer I can invite whomever I like over to hang out, and never have to deal with those I dislike. Yeah yeah, you're saying: "Emily, learn to suck it up! In life you can't always choose the people you work with." Yes, I know this (having been paired up to work on projects with several people I dislike), but that still does not make me stomach it any better.

The only thing I am actually looking forward to is wearing some new clothes. I purchased a few new band tees and a skirt from Hot Topic the other day, and I cannot wait to be sporting my new tees that say Avenged Sevenfold and Bullet For My Valentine on them.

Awards applaud monsters of metal

Heavy rock heavyweights Metallica and Rage Against the Machine have been hailed as heroes at Kerrang! magazine's annual awards ceremony in London.

Metallica received the metal magazine's inspiration award, while Rage Against the Machine entered its Hall of Fame.

US band 30 Seconds To Mars, fronted by actor Jared Leto, were the only act to win more than once, picking up best single and best international band.

Welsh rockers Bullet For My Valentine were named best British band.

The ceremony, one of the most boisterous in the music calendar, hosts the hottest names in heavy rock - from outrageous thrash metal monsters to mainstream stars.

Metallica were given the biggest ovation of the night when they collected their award.

"We are very, very appreciative of all the love we feel around us," singer James Hetfield told the crowd.

"Heavy metal is resurging, coming alive again. Thank you for supporting that."

The band had been name-checked as inspirations by some of the earlier winners, including 30 Seconds To Mars and Slipknot.

Metallica have been going for 27 years and have sold more than 100 million records worldwide.

Kerrang! editor Paul Brannigan credited them with having "changed the face of heavy metal forever".

"Every musician in this room is influenced by this band and their classic albums," he said.

Metallica are headlining the Reading and Leeds Festivals this weekend alongside Rage Against the Machine, which also got a rapturous reception at the ceremony.

"Thank you so much," singer Zack De La Rocha said, before reeling off a list of names that included The Clash, Public Enemy, Bob Dylan and "anyone who went out in the streets and showed Tony Blair the door".

30 Seconds To Mars refrained from mentioning their former record label EMI in their speeches after the company sued the band for $30m (£16m).

Accepting the best single prize for From Yesterday, Leto described the award as "an unbelievable gift".

Masked metal titans Slipknot, meanwhile, were given the Kerrang! Icon honor.

That was accepted by three band members - all in trademark horror outfits - with drummer Joey Jordison absent after breaking his ankle.

The injury has forced the band to cancel their appearances at Reading and Leeds. "We showed up for the booze - I didn't even know we were nominated," they said.

Mr Brannigan had welcomed the bands as "ladies, gentlemen and mythical beasts", and the event has a reputation for drunken behavior.

Other winners included Def Leppard, who sent a video message after being named classic songwriters.

Avenged Sevenfold picked up best album, while Machine Head were named best live act.

Slaves To Gravity won the best British newcomer trophy, with the international equivalent going to rising stars Black Tide.

The winners of best video were New York progressive-rockers Coheed & Cambria, for the track Feathers - a vision of American suburbia shot in black and white and featuring a sadistic housewife.

The night was hosted by Anthrax guitarist Scott Ian, with eight of the 13 winners voted for by Kerrang! readers.

Heut is endlich mein Xbox360 Wireless Controller gekommen !!

Was willste mehr?

) gibts wieder nen Song of the Day!

Heut mit Bullet For my Valentine und "Hearts Burst Into Fire"! hAvE fUN !

Hai Everybody. Matt here.
Well...I bet whoever (if anyone) comes here is wanting a sneak peak at my CSS. Well you'll get one! Just not right now. Ha I'll tell you 'bout that later.
My weekend was pretty good after the peanut festival.

On Sunday I went to the Oglethorpe Mall in Savannah, Georgia and got three things. Disturbed Band-tee, Bullet for my Valentine Band-tee, and some awesome "Tattoo Design" Converse. Ha, I'll get a picture later. But if your wondering, I got the converse from Underground Station, and the shirts from Hot Topic. I think the websites are http://hottopic.com and http://undergroundstation.com.

Ok...now for the CSS Sneak Peak. I've e-mailed my friend, Connor, and asked for his help with a header. Yes, this is the only sneak peak he's getting as well (haha Connor :P, check your email). Here it is.

I'll let that tease Ya'lls minds. I'd love to hear what kinda crazy stuff you could all come up with on what you think it is :D. '-'

More to come regarding the brutal performances from Cancer Bats, Bleeding Through and Bullet For My Valentine...

What an insane trio of band to be on one stage. From hardcore punk energy to metal core insanity to pure metal mayhem.

The venue was the House Of Blues in the Mandalay Bay Resort in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA. That was strange in itself as it's a very posh resort and to find a dingy dark concert venue was bizarre. The catch being it's not really real, it's manufactured to look and feel like the bars in cities like Chicago or New York but that's Vegas for you - one big make believe world. That did nothing to deter the energy of the place, however!

I was looking most forward to seeing the Cancer Bats - so much so I bought one of their tees before the show and wore it! :) Well... Cancer Bats arrived on the scene 30 minutes early and it was one of the most energetic performances I've ever witnessed first hand. After the first couple of songs I was exhausted just watching them go nuts on stage. The band was definately having a great time! The sounds was what you would expect from a hardcore band and I wasn't the only one smiling with excitement at what the evening was revealing!

The crowd was starting to get to maximum capacity after the Cancer Bats left the stage and the lull between bands commenced. It was about 40 minutes later when Bleeding Through burst onto the stage to a roar. Sadly the sound was completely off and sounded tiny. It was still a great performance but I just couldn't enjoy it 100% because of the bad sound levels. Some of the instruments couldn't even be heard. Another odd thing about Bleeding Through is their look - they look like a bunch of people who work at Microsoft, not an insane metal core band.

It was getting hard to move when Bleeding Through finished their 45 odd minutes. It was then a long wait for the stage to get prepared for Bullet For My Valentine who blasted onto the stage with incredible sounds and presence. I'm pretty sure they played everyone song from their two latest albums and I was pretty much awe struck. The energy level was intense and they (along with the other two bands) did all they could to encourage moshing, slamming, diving and general madness! It was obvious that most of the crowd new the songs as there was plenty of singing along with all the mayhem. The bouncers and guards we're on their toes though so no one was hurt that I saw and the crowd maintained some semblance of control (even it if was madness induced).

After the show there we're lots of smiles and I was early to the bands booth selling all the goods where I ended up with a Bullet For My Valentine tee, grabbed a few complimentary No Fear energy drinks and grabbed a demo CD from a band named Hallow Band.....
