I, like many, am a huge Tarantino fan so I felt like he deserved the Sunday Movie spot today. I choose one of his less celebrated flicks, however, because it would be just too easy to choose Pulp Fiction. Jackie Brown is an excellent movie hands down. It was the resurgence of Pam Grier and Robert Forster's careers caught on camera. They were spot on in the film as were all the cast members. The cast includes names such as Bridget Fonda, Michael Keaton, Robert De Niro, Chris Tucker, and Samuel L. Jackson (it's a Tarantino flick you know he's in there). The soundtrack is great as well, Quentin has rounded up some of the greatest soul songs of all time and put them to good use in the movie. Overall you got a great director, a great cast, a great soundtrack, combine that with an great script and you got a great movie.

Last night, the Stand Up To Cancer Telethon took over all three major networks at NBC, CBS, and ABC. More than 60 celebrities from music, sports, TV, and film showed up to make history. Beyonce, Halle Berry, Charles Barkley, Chris Tucker, Jennifer Aniston, Salma Hayek, Patrick Swayze, Rob Lowe, Forest Whitaker, Keanu Reeves, America Ferrera (Ugly Betty), BeBe Winans, Jennifer Garner and a few other stars all supported. Last night I sort of realized that actually getting the book was the easy part. Now I've actually got to write it. Fortunately, it's an update but there's a lot of new stuff that I've proposed and the editors liked, so I've got my work cut out for me. I've started another blog where I'm actually going to detail the entire process of writing the book from negotiating the contract to publishing to promoting it. If you want the address for that, it's Firstname-Lastname.blogspot.com. If you don't know my first and last names and don't feel like doing any detective work, drop me a line and I'll hook you up. But only if you promise to stalk me.

So as part of that realization, I spent last night looking up past and present authors of the series and emailing them for tips. The worst they can do is tell me to drop dead or ignore my emails and hopefully one or two of them will actually give me some information I can use. I also read some incredibly mind-numbing articles on book contract negotiations. I'm not sure I want to bring my agent into the mix because that means agent fees and I'm already not really going to be making much money from this book (when you consider the expenses and time put into it against the royalties which I have to split with the old author).  That much I did figure out from reading travel author's websites.

So I'm setting up my huge PR machine to start building momentum now for the book with the blog and a press release (really, thank god for my years and years of marketing and PR experience!). I'm going through the current book and deciding, locally, who is staying in and how many spaces I have to fill with new restaurants, hotels, spas, galleries, etc... and then trying to figure out a realistic timeline and itinerary for my many out of town trips.

In my twisted fantasies I am very much like the Chris Tucker character, Ruby Rhod from the 5th Element, except that I am neither black nor male.

Although I made a promise to every potential higher power I could think of that IF I got this book, I would not use my power for evil, it's still nice to know that the local business owners who have not exactly been ... nice to me in the past, do not necessarily need to be included in this updated edition. I mean, as much as I would looooove to include everyone, I can't now, can I?

Now I just need to get the outfit from above in dog sizes for my entourage.

It was a SoSo Def weekend in Atlanta and I am beat! My Betsey Johnson heels are finally put up lol, after a long weekend of hott events! Jermaine Dupri did a wonderful job of hosting all sorts of events, like a celebrity basketball game,then he had an all white party at the woodruff arts center,then Sunday he had a lounge area full of celebs at the Bronner Bros show! All these parties were so fun and I got some great interviews with celebs like Jermaine Dupri,Gary Sturgis,The Beautiful Kenya Moore,Sanaa Lathan,chris tucker,lorenz tate,Regina King,Nia Long,My girl Gabrielle Union,Bow Wow,Lil Jon,Nelly,Kevin Hart, and many more! It was a star studded weekend! Many pink kisses go out to Glue Media for the personal invite, to all the events....hey Sheila!

I mean he was funny as hell back then.  Ol' Otis the security guard, Tyrone, even Shenehneh even though I'm not really down with the cross-dressing shits.  Even after that, Martin hit us with Bad Boys, Nothing to Lose (which is quietly hilarious), Life, Blue Streak (even though Dave Chappelle killed it in his small part).  Then it was over.   Big Momma's house seems to be the turning point.

When was the last time this dude was funny?  I just saw two horrible joints back to back.  College Road Trip and Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins.

I mean those two joints were mothafackin turrible.  I mean I was trapped on an airplane for 5 hours when they showed that damn College Road Trip and I still almost didn't finish it.  I voluntarily watched Roscoe Jenkins, but the bad part was, everyone was funny but Martin Lawrence.  The trailer seemed funny, but it just didn't all come together right.

Why does this always happen?  All the great comedians fall off, can't my generation get one comedian that doesn't go out like a complete punk?  Where's out Richard Pryor?  Our Redd Foxx?  Our Bill Cosby?  Martin Lawrence...lost it.  Eddie Murphy...fell off.  Chris Tucker...I barely remember him being funny at all he's so terrible now.  Dave Chappelle might be done now too, I just haven't seen him do anything at all since he disappeared into Africa after the Chappelle's Show debacle.  He'll probably come back dressed like a woman too and it will be the beginning of the end of his career.  It will be his Big Momma's Norbit, Doubtfire, Ruby Rhod moment.

So what went wrong? I've pinpointed it.  The leather suit.  You can't be funny without the leather suit.  I know this sounds like barbershop logic, but hear me out.  Watch.

Not funny. And from the look on his face, he knows it.

Who's left?  Chris Rock?  Jamie Foxx?  Someone let them know to keep the closet stocked with the leather jumpsuit or their career is in serious jeopardy.  If you ask Lake, he's already convinced that "Fur is the new Funny".  Look, I'm down for whatever works at this point.

Martin I need to to sit down at the crib, put "You So Crazy" on repeat, break out the leather suit and get back to basics.  You were one of the best.  Now man up and get your swagger back.
