Bones on FOX: Man those were some good times people, and by good times, I mean terrible times - Angela and Hodgins are still trying to get Angela good and divorced so they can get married and have 20 million children; Bones and Booth are still denying their chemistry; Sweets got dumped by his girl and is still weirdly creepy for no apparent reason; Bones's dad got arrested then freed, but we're still not sure if he's guilty or innocent or if that matters; Booth's kid must have gotten himself into completely unknown danger a half dozen times; Buried alive. Voodoo Magic. And Gormogon. and Zacky! Oh my lord, dramarama people. It wins. Miss Deschanel, Mr. Boreanez, you can stop by my office anytime for your award, and by office I mean my apartment, and by award I mean me jumping up and down saying, "Oh my god - it's you! Hey will you guys make out for me, puh-lease???" I mean, uh...

Really, do I have to go there? The kiss under the mistletoe where they both realize they love each other but both deny it completely and continue being ignorant - the man faked his own death people! Common! The whole psycho obsessive stalker thing! How many times does the man have to rush to certain death to save his son or Bones to win an Emmy? Common!

Wow, I just don't watch much tv maybe? Still on the drama, so I'm going with Ellen Pompeo from Grey's Anatomy. I'm sorry but when she finally conjured up and shared that memory of her mother committing suicide in their kitchen right in front of her, and telling her to be Extraordinary - and then coming home from that day and finding her kitchen filled with blood and the knife there to boot because Alex's Rebecca/Ava nutcase girlfriend went off the deep end, and then thinking, "oh my god she's going to lose it,"  but she DOESN'T - she cleans up the blood and comes to the revelation that her mother wanted her to be extraordinary in LOVE and then oh swooning and house of candles, and ahhhhhhhhhh.... She wins people.

Continuing on my theme of these people don't know drama, let's see, the winner has to be T. J. Thyne for his portrayal of Jack Hodgins on Bones. This man just drips of drama - did I mention buried alive? How about his deep sea diving escapade? His whole relationship with Angela is uberly romantically dramatic and his creepy, could I be Gormogon thing going on in the season 3 finale was just brilliant - this man is an acting force to be reckoned with. And my husband loves and idolizes him. :P

Well finally, some shows I've heard of, and strangely one of the same shows I've been bragging my arse about for paragraphs now. Well it has to go to Chandra Wilson (who plays the formidable Dr. Bailey on Grey's) - I'd have chosen her ballot or no. The things this poor woman has had to face - In season four, Miranda opted to be Callie's "number two," as Torres was doing a sucktastic job as Chief Resident. The Chief saw all of this and eventually fired Torres and gave the job to Bailey. He then apologized for taking Dr. Bailey for granted, which brought the poor woman to tears. Not enough drama? How about when Miranda helped save the life of a white supremacist despite his totally racist treatment of her? Huh? Huh? Then, when stitching the jerk back up, she comments to George that the incision will have to be aligned better, thus ruining the shmuck's large swastika tattoo on his stomach. Then, during the surgery her declaration that she "will not be called the Nazi ever again." And common? Her son's hugely dramatic trip to this ER for surgeryafter a bad accident and the complete unhinging of her marriage, her husband telling her that she placed her job before her family and that that was what led to Tucker's accident. In the finale episode she turned control of the clinic to Dr. Izzie Stevens telling Stevens that she had earned it and that Bailey herself needed to learn to let go of some things if she wanted to hold on to other things... gah, man Bailey. Bailey man! She wins!

COMEDY SERIES:

Well of these choices I feel this weird need to choose Two and a Half Men, but it was so seriously not the best comedy series - the best was Ugly Betty, hands down and tied behind their backs. Obviously. How much more humor and awesomeness could you even dare to ask for? Seriously. I won't even go on a long  tangent, because it's not necessary. The judges are just stupid.

I don't even need to tell you all about her shennanigans to sort of have Bradfrod's baby but not really but still be brilliantly evil from beginning to end. I don't have to tell you this, because you know, she was brilliant. You know she wins.

Oh come on, you know I have to support our fellow mommies and go for Heidi Klum and her complete awesomeness - how does she look so perfect before after and during each pregnancy? What is her secret? What's it like being married to Seal? Inquiring minds want to know!

Okay well why isn't America's Next Top Model a choice? Stop it please, or I will go with Project Runway next year - remember, preggers woman working full time!

Extreme Makeover all the way - between the overall awesomeness of the show and Ty being there and saying things and looking adorable - it just wins. It deserves eight (8) emmy's easily. The work they do is just amazing and brilliant and wonderful and I wish there were more shows like this on tv today.

So there you have it folks - you know now just how few tv shows I really watch and just how strongly I feel about them - and just how many times I can use the word awesome in one post - it was fun huh? I wonder how differently the real Emmy's will turn out? Probably not this awesomely, that's for sure.

Last month, I caught the high-energy premiere for - "The Rocker" - at a Film Festival in Las Vegas.

Now that slapstick promos are starting to stream across the Internet, I anticipate the side-splitting comedy will be opening soon at a Theatre near you.

The red-carpet affair was a blast!

Rainn Wilson - sizzlin' hot comic of the moment - caused quite a stir when he arrived in full regalia - outlandish over-the-top Rock Star attire - in what was billed as "The Largest Limo" in the free world...with a rag-tag band of friends in tow - a midget, scintillating showgirls, a Centurion, Magician, uh-huh!

For those who grew up on Rock Music, the film is a must-see. After all, its a dead-on send-up of the entire "Rock" generation, which delights.

Lainn's wild characterization and skitzy screen persona hit my funny bone, no problemo!

And - in addition - "Rocker" managed to conjure up a handful of delicious memories from the far reaches of my psychedelically-enhanced grey matter!

Back in the seventies - a hip dude I knew - was a roadie with the J. Geils Band. So, of course, he liked to party-hearty. On the weekends - or when he had some down-time off-the-road - the two of us would get all gussied up in pink spandex pants, flimsy silk shirts with ruffles down the front, and boots with four-inch heels; then, trek down to Max's Kansas City in downtown NYC.

Inside this den of iniquity, ragged Rockers and underground Stars from the Warhol Factory, hung out nightly and well into the witchin' hour.

During that time-frame, the New York Dolls were all the rage!

In "Rocker", Lainn plays a dynamic hard-driving drummer for an up-and-coming band. Just as the leading-edge musicians are about to sign a lucrative contract sure to guarantee a launch into the stratosphere of sound, the band is forced to dump Lainn's character from the line-up in favor of a nephew of the record exec who's going to be pulling the career strings.

The rejection is not taken lightly; in fact, the jilted skins expert slumps into a twenty-year funk and it does not appear he'll ever snap out of it.

Then, one day, his nephew's is in dire need of a drummer for their garage band.

The opportunity is met with a lot of consternation, at first; but, the faded rock dinosaur finally commits.

The band's first stage appearance is on the verge of resounding success, when Lainn's character suddenly "flashes back" and goes overboard. His fatal reach for the immortal abyss turns into a catastrophic failure; consequently, he ruins the first gig.

In fact, the band crumbles; goes kaput.

But, there is a resurrection and a finale a filmgoer won't want to miss.

Lainn steals the movie, hands down; partly due to his amazing comic-timing, but also because he's been given well-scripted material to springboard off of.

One of my favorite lines in the film occurs when the rocker notes that the music business can be a tough row to hoe.

"They play Celine Dion in the elevator. That doesn't make it right."

But, a relatively new face - in the role of a sleazy Band Manager (played to the hilt) - is the one to watch out for. That actor is going places, no doubt.

Christina Applegate turns in a well-keyed performance as a young mom protective of her naive teenager.

All the supporting players are believable, likable, and round out the entertainment value of the well-produced film.

Rock on, eh?

Minha Opinião: Estou torcendo pra House ou Lost, mas acho que quem deva ganhar deve ser ou Damages ou Mad Men. Damages teve uma temporada brilhante, mas alguns episódios foram confusos e quanto a Mad Men mesmo com a reconstituição de época perfeita foi uma série dificil de ver apesar da season finale impressionante. Acho que quem leva é Mad Men.

Melhor Série Comédia:

Minha Opinião: Dessas séries só vi a temporada de Two And A Hal Men e não foi lá grandes coisas então acho que 30 Rock deva ganhar até por causa do número absurdo de indicações.

Minha Opinião: In Treatment só vi uma semana e Gabriel Byrne estava muito bem no papel, mas minha torcida vai pro Hugh Laurie por ainda não ter ganho e também pela season finale que foi impressionante, mas quem deva ganhar seja Jon Hamm que também fez um ótimo trabalho em Mad Men.

Melhor Ator Comédia:

Minha Opinião: Minha torcida é da Julia Louis-Dreyfus, em que sua série teve uma temporada reduzida mas brilhante e em seguida torço pela America Ferrera, mas parece que o favoritismo aqui é da Tina Fey.

William Shatner(Boston Legal) - Ted Danson(Damages) - Zeljko Ivanek(Damages) - Michael Emerson(Lost) - John Slattery(Mad Men)

Minha Opinião: Acredito que o Michael Emerson leve essa, se ele não levar torço pro Zeljko Ivanek que fez um ótimo trabalho em Damages. Eu me espantei com a indicação do John Slattery aqui.

Melhor Ator Coadjuvante Comédia:

Jeremy Piven(Entourage) - Kevin Dillon(Entourage) - Rainn Wilson(The Office) - Jon Cryer(Two And A Half Men) - Neil Patrick Harris(How I Met Your Mother)

Minha Opinião: Jeremy Piven já venceu 2 vezes, então acho que é o favorito aqui, mas torço pra que o Neil Patrick Harris vença esse ano.

Minha Opinião:  Nessa categoria tenho três preferidas, em ordem: Kristin Chenoweth, Holland Taylor e Vanessa Williams. Botei a Vanessa em terceiro por ainda não ter visto a segunda temporada, mas ainda não vi nenhuma despontando como favorita.

At the peak of my television obsession (high school when I would record and keep episodes of various shows on VHS), I remember when I would wake up at 5 in the morning to watch the live feed on E! of the announcement of the Emmy nominations. Sadly, time passed and since premium cable never existed in my life and the popularity of TV shows on DVD was still something of the future, watching nominee after nominee from The Sopranos or Six Feet Under didn't mean anything to me.

However, in most recent years, proven with today's nomination list for the 60th Primetime Emmy Awards, major network and basic cable television shows are making their marks as places to find good television. HBO-style gratuitous sex, bloody murder, and f-bombs are out, cute piemakers are in. Well, perhaps the sex and murder aren't completely out (re: Cagney of Cagney and Lacey's guest starring role as the obsessed agent/teddy bear maker on Nip/Tuck).

Since all the nominations for Mad Men and 30 Rock are a given, I'd like to congratulate and highlight some of the surprises:

Lee Pace, Kristen Chenoweth, and Costume Designers Mary Vogt and Stephanie Fox-Kramer for Pushing Daisies - Ms. Vogt and Fox-Kramer, you two deserve that Emmy. I have never wanted a television character's wardrobe more than Anna Friel's.

Amy Poehler for Saturday Night Live - I don't even remember when someone was ever nominated for an emmy for their cast role on the sketch show

Sharon Gless on Nip/Tuck - You scared the beejeezus out of me.

Christina Applegate for Samantha Who? - Yay for first season nominees. You made me actually not hate the guy from 7th Heaven and Jennifer Esposito.

The nominees for lead actress in a miniseries or movie - the lineup looks better than the best actress nominees for the Oscars

Sarah Silverman - I'm Fucking Matt Damon

That's the way I feel about Jimmy Kimmel and Sarah Silverman breaking up. Because in the grand tradition of real-life couples Lucy and Desi and George and Gracie, their union created some hilarious comedy. Though perhaps the nature of the pieces was an early warning sign.

Silverman presented I'm F***ing Matt Damon to Kimmel as a gift in honor of Jimmy Kimmel Live's 5th anniversary (it was originally meant to be aired in November 2007 during Kimmel's birthday show, which never happened due to the WGA strike), and uploads of the video quickly appeared on YouTube in a Lazy Sunday-esque wave.

The choice of partners is deliberate, as Jimmy Kimmel has a long-standing joke feud with Matt Damon (culminating in a rage-filled appearance in September 2006), but who knew that Matt Damon could not only rap, but bust out some 90s-dance-crew moves?

And who knew that Kimmel would raise the bar so dramatically with a follow-up featuring Damon BFF Ben Affleck? I'm F***ing Ben Affleck may start off like a cheap rip-off, but soon afterwards ups the ante, both in an artistic and cast sense: the quasi-official YouTube upload lists Robin Williams, Don Cheadle, Harrison Ford, Brad Pitt, Cameron Diaz, Christina Applegate, Rebecca Romijn, Benji Madden, Joel Madden, Dicky Barrett, Christopher Mintz-Plasse a.k.a. Mclovin, Lance Bass, Dominic Monaghan, Meatloaf, Pete Wentz, Joan Jett, Huey Lewis, Perry Farrell, Macy Gray and Josh Groban. Sure, there are no butterflies. But there is a "We Are The World"-esque chorus and Harrison Ford in a convertible. Advantage: Kimmel.

Of course, Silverman and Kimmel didn't work together on these shorts -- both were directed by Wayne McClammy, a Jimmy Kimmel Live segment director who's parlayed his success into exciting directing gigs. But the established nature of their relationship in the public eye is what gives these pieces the additional kick. What makes "I'm F***ing Matt Damon/Ben Affleck" so much fun is that the humor of the pieces reflect that stage in a romance when all the insecurity is gone, when both partners are so comfortable with each other that they can make these sorts of tasteless jokes. Now that they've broken up, it's just a little sad, to think of the people they are now, um, f***ing.

But maybe there's a chance they got together for one last breakup music video. Everyone knows those are always the best.

When I started my Emmys coverage for this year's ceremony a while ago, I (as always) had a lot of plans: previews of every category (Got through a lot), reviews of every submitted episode (Almost got through those), and all sorts of other grand schemes that never come to fruition. This is the nature of being a television critic of sorts: you have a lot to say, but balancing it and the rest of your life (See: Watching Television, clearly) can be a bit of a challenge. Let it be known I took most of that free time doing my duty and finally watching shows like The Wire, Six Feet Under and Flight of the Conchords.

However, there's no way I could possibly procrastinate on writing up my various predictions. Predictions are one of those things that I think about more than I write about (I tried writing more this year, and after a while it petered off). Great sites like AwardsHeaven or Coco at the Movies or TV with Abe keep detailed lists for weeks or months ahead of time updating when the Top 10s come out, but I tend to ruminate a bit more introspectively. We'll see how that goes this time around, when our access to the Top 10 lists for various categories makes this task easier, yes, but also far more competitive. But, I'm not in it to win it, so to speak; I'm just an Emmy fanatic who enjoys the thrill of participation.

So, without further adieu, my predictions for the nominations for the 60th Primetime Emmy Awards.

Outstanding Drama Series

This is a very hard category to call, and admittedly I'm following my own interests here: there's every chance of Grey's Anatomy replacing Lost on this list based on its popularity alone, but something tells me that Lost's episode submission (The fantastic "The Constant") will elevate them through. Mad Men and Damages represent the new crop of summer cable hits, while Boston Legal and House should ride baity submission and Hugh Laurie, respectively, to nods.

Lead Actor in a Drama Series

• James Spader (Boston Legal)
• Jon Hamm (Mad Men)
• Michael C. Hall (Dexter)
• Hugh Laurie (House)
• Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad)

The first four are pretty much locks: while his show is too bloody to make it into major categories, Hall's Emmy pedigree and the fantastic nature of his performance should get him the nomination he deserved last year. Meanwhile, "should have won before" Laurie and newcomer and Golden Globe winner Hamm will try to dethrone undefeated Emmy king Spader, and that last slot is up for grabs. I've gone with Bryan Cranston's brave performance in the AMC series, one I need to finish watching at some point (Only got through the opening two episodes). Gabriel Byrne is the other option, but I believe that if Cranston made the Top 10 people were watching, and he would have performed well on the panels.

Those following the Emmy race will sigh at that last name - while the first four are more or less locks based on name recognition and showy performances, the fifth candidate in this category is somewhat more open. However, with previous nominees like Mariska Hargitay and Minnie Driver waiting in the wings, the chances of an actress from a science fiction series breaking through are slim. However, frak that kind of logical thinking: I want to have hope, for once, that they'll see through the Science Fiction and discover a tremendous performance that is worthy of consideration.

I've been singing the praises of Ivanek since the series ended, and he has one of the best submissions on the list. However, I think he'll only break in if we get six nominees. Emerson has a stunning tape, Danson has the popularity, Shatner has the track record, Underwood has a good submission, and Slattery will ride Mad Men's buzz. I think it's Emerson's race to lose, but five or six this is going to be a stunningly good category.

While I was never really a fan of Rose Byrne on Damages, there's more than enough buzz to get her into the winner's circle. The rest of the list is old stalwarts, as Griffiths fights for the Emmy she probably should have won for Six Feet Under (And that Brothers & Sisters gave her decent material for) and Sandra Oh looks to finally break her drought as well. Wiest, however, is lingering on the outskirts as a seasoned performer who could easily take a spot, so Oh's place is not safe in the least with potential spoilers waiting in the wings.

In this category, I think the first four are locks: 30 Rock has the buzz, Office has the popularity, Pushing Daisies has a stunning quality level in its pilot, and sadly the universe has deemed Two and a Half Men funny. The final slot comes down to HBO's two shows, I feel, but Entourage hasn't aired since last summer, and Curb has more pedigree with star Larry David.

Let the wishful thinking continue: Charlie Sheen is a likely nominee based on the popularity of Two and a Half Men, but my conscience cannot predict him. And so, I'm going with Lee Pace - I think the Pushing Daisies pilot was watched by a lot of people curious about its craft work, and they found a delightfully charming performance that is deserving of consideration. However, no matter who makes the list (I'm iffy on David, but think he'll pull through), this is a battle between Baldwin and Carell, both of whom were robbed last year. Don't count out David Duchovony's turn on Californication, but that show missing the Top 10 makes me wary.

It's hard to predict what three Desperate Housewives tapes will do to this race, but my prediction is that they'll cancel one another out. I'm tempted to include Cross, who is long overdue for another nomination, but the rest of the category features performers with more buzz and on series with more signs of life. Housewives' snub in the comedy category tells me that the Emmys are over the show, so this seems like the more likely lineup (Although I'm tempted to say Ferrera gets snubbed for Cross, so if that happens curse my second thoughts).

This is a tough category, mainly because the first five names seem like locks. Last year, Kevin Dillon broke into the category from Entourage, but that was with a great submission: this year, he has much worse material, and therefore I don't see him making the cut. If anyone is going to break in, though, it's Jack McBrayer for his turn as Kenneth the Page on 30 Rock. It's the show with the most buzz this year in comedy, so the chances of it driving him to a nom are high.

I feel really bad not including Jane Krakowski on this list from 30 Rock, but I think Tina Fey's popularity will benefit her former SNL/Baby Mama co-star more. Still, I think the bias against sketch comedy will keep Poehler from cracking a Top 5. It's a nice mix, I think, of the more seasoned talent (Taylor) with the younger and edgier fare from the other competitors - and, in a league of her own this year, Vanessa Williams looks to win an Emmy she probably deserved last year (A trend from last year's show, no?)

Outstanding Reality Competition Program

• Top Chef (Bravo)

Yes, it's the same lineup as last year. No, I don't expect that to change: when the latter two got references on 30 Rock, and the first one has never lost in the category, and the other two are the biggest shows on television? There's no stopping this lineup.

Outstanding Reality Host

• Phil Keoghan (The Amazing Race)
• Heidi Klum (Project Runway)
• Tom Bergeron (Dancing with the Stars)
• Wayne Brady (Don't Forget the Lyrics)

I think it's a bit of a tragedy that Cat Deeley can't make this category, as I love her banter and spontaneity on So You Think You Can Dance?, but I really hope that Bergeron does. Yes, Dancing with the Stars is not brilliant television in most areas, but his improvisation and quick-thinking turn cheese into charming cheese, something that deserves credit. Meanwhile, Klum and Keoghan ride the popularity of their shows despite not really being overly active hosts (Although Keoghan's eyebrow deserves special mention), and Brady managed to win a Daytime Emmy when his show had already been canceled so don't count him out. However, this category partially exists so Mark Burnett, by proxy, might finally win an Emmy award. Probst is omnipresent and great as Survivor host, and this might finally be his chance to shine.

That's all I'll be doing complete predictions for, mainly because the others get so tenuous and unpredictable. I will, however, be handling the writing, directing, guest and some creative arts awards later this week, but simply listing potential contenders vs. uniform predictions. For now, feel free to agree, disagree, or list your own predictions below!

Christina Applegate's boyfriend of 2 years, Lee Grivas, was found dead in his apartment on July 1st. The National Enquirer reports that the 26-year-old died from an apparent heroin overdose. An official cause of death has not been issued, of course.

A source said that Christina is "absolutely devastated over the sudden loss." I'm sure that's an understatement.

TMZ confirms the death and claims a neighbor found him.

The two met in 2006 while Christina was doing "Sweet Charity" on Broadway and still married to Johnathon Schaech. Christina and Lee broke up several times, because of his drug problems and she "couldn't stand by and watch him ruin his life." Lee was a fisherman, photographer and skateboarder.

Una de mis actrices favoritas, Julianne Moore, fantástica y brillante en todos sus trabajos, yo me quedo con El gran Lebowski y Las horas. Además es guapísima, eso si, reivindico que en las fotos dejen de ponerle moreno de bote en la piel, ella está guapísima con su tez blanca y su pelo rojizo, como vemos en este wall.

Kate Hudson no es que me guste demasiado como actriz, aunque tampoco ha tenido la oportunidad de desenvolverse en mejores papeles, quizá me gustase en Casi famosos, le iba muy bien ese papel, era muy natura. En estas fotos está muy elegante.

De una Kate, vamos a otra, ahora con Kate Winslet, que me gusta más que la anterior, tiene una belleza muy natural y versátil además.

No voy a mentir, me encanta la estética Pin-up y cuando vi a Rose McGowan, actriz de belleza extraña, que apareció en Planet Terror y Death Proof hace relatívamente poco, tuve que hacer este wall.

Actriz y guapa es también Salma Hayek, mis debilidades reunidas en estas fotos, tul, flores y color rosa... es inevitable.

Más natural es la actriz de comedias Sandra Bullock, es guapa de forma natural y nos entretiene un rato.

Y por último mostrar el wall de Scarlett Johanson, en unas fotos menos exhuberantes de lo que a muchos y muchas les gustaría, pero me parecieron bonitas para combinar en un wall.

In the Emmy Awards' smallest acting category, there's not much in the way of wiggle room. The small numbers should mean more of a chance of grabbing a nomination for newcomers, like Pushing Daisies' Anna Friel or Miss/Guided's Judy Greer, but it's also one of the most tightly contested of the major categories. This is because there's a lot of forces at play here: you've got the power of the four Housewives, the heritage of Seinfeld, Everybody Loves Raymond and Married...with Children, and the credibility of awards-show favourites like Mary-Louise Parker or Tina Fey.

Combine all of this with last year's winner America Ferrera, and you have a category where making the Top 10 isn't enough; you need to have something special that's going to make you overcome the logjam that could lead to the category's five nominees. On the one hand, this shuts out a lot of good candidates who probably deserve a shot, as they won't rank highly enough in the popular vote to have a chance.

However, the one good spinoff is that for the candidates who do have that name recognition, it's going to be a race that is decided by who has the best tape. The seven or so candidates who have a chance of cracking that Top 5 will have to put forward their best material of the season, and the result is a race that's going to be very close even if there's so many "real" contenders.

First and foremost, the frontrunner in the race is definitely Tina Fey. A year ago, her surprise nomination signaled that the industry appreciation for her show was perhaps bleeding into industry appreciation for her work therein. This was for good reason, as Fey has matured tremendously in her time on the series. Since that point, it's stopped being a surprise: she won both the Screen Actor's Guild and the Golden Globe Awards earlier this year, and she's one of the sure-fire nominees heading into the awards.

She was perhaps one of the one actresses who could get through based on any submission, but she's chosen well. Since I last posted about 30 Rock's emmy submissions, she's changed to "Sandwich Day." While I loved some of her individual scenes in "Episode 210," this is a much stronger narrative for her character as she deals with Floyd's return to New York through a great deal of comic hijinx. It also displays Fey's ability to eat on camera, a well-honed talent, and she has every chance of riding this submission to a win.

America Ferrera, last year's winner, will struggle in the sense that her show has taken a definite nosedive in popular support. Both its ratings and its accolades have taken a hit, so Ferrera and Vanessa L. Williams will likely be its only shot at Emmy glory. I think the downfall of the show won't absolutely keep her out of the category, but she's going to have to hope that they don't forget about her in the process. Her submission is a good one, a classic comedy-choice of the episode where they're forced to act completely out of character. In "Odor in the Court," Betty is poisoned by some perfume and becomes "not herself," it was actually pretty hokey, but it's a showy tape for an actress whose physical comedy won her the Emmy last year.

Julia Louis-Dreyfus won two years ago, breaking the Seinfeld curse as far as many were concerned. As further proof of this, and the continued love her show has received in these circles, it was renewed for a full season in May. That is largely in part to Louis-Dreyfus, who continues to enjoy comic highs on the series. Her submission, "One and a Half Men," smartly reminds viewers of the Seinfeld connection with guest star Jason Alexander, and certainly seems like the kind of neurotic portrayal voters enjoy.

For Mary-Louise Parker, she's got a lot less pedigree but plenty of momentum. Weeds continues to register when it comes to acting performances, and Showtime always puts a lot of attention behind the show. It also can't hurt that the fourth season is premiering during the voting period. Nancy Botwin went through a lot in the show's third season, so it's a bit strange that Parker would select "Bill Sussman" as her episode of choice. While it does feature her being part of a drive-by shooting, which is certainly an attention-grabber, she was far funnier in the season premiere as she dealt with five guns in her face after her pot went missing. She's competitive either way, but I definitely think the below clip would be better for her.

And then you have the four women of Desperate Housewives. We can discount Longoria, who is always the stepchild of the foursome, and Hatcher's material and her performances have been closer to embarassing than awards worthy. That leaves Cross and Huffman, the two most consistent performers, as the show's chances at breaking back into the Emmy Winners circle. Huffman has the Cancer storyline to tug at the hearts of voters, always a plus, but it was also rather painful to watch (Her submitted episode, "Now I Know, Don't be Scared," is a rather tortuous allegory). This leaves Cross, who really deserves more recognition for her elevation of poor material on a weekly basis, whose submission (Season Premiere "Now You Know") has her dealing with a fake pregnancy. The real question is whether, if they both make the Top 10, one of their tapes might help service the other's chances, but only time will tell.

But there's no race without a bright newcomer, and this year isn't someone with a bit of a history. Christina Applegate won an Emmy for guesting on Friends, and she's gotten SAG and Globe nominations for her work on Samantha Who?, a comedy success for ABC this season. It's also a show that most certainly is dominated by its lead, a winning and charming Applegate. That she didn't submit the pilot, with its showy scenes and almost 100% screentime, is a bit strange; her selection, "The Restraining Order," is funny and features some cute plays on the show's central duality, but it isn't quite as much designed as a comic showcase for Applegate herself. She should grab a nomination, but a win with that tape might be tough.

Other contenders for the Top 10 include Anna Friel, who I talked about in my Pushing Daisies analysis, and Judy Greer's whose short-lived ABC sitcom Miss/Guided was a bit of a critical success due to her performance. Greer is the definition of a dark horse, and while she might have gotten in under the system from two years ago that values only tapes, she isn't making the cut this time around. More likely to break through is Patricia Heaton, whose "Back to You" was unceremoniously canceled but could nonetheless see her use her Raymond-pedigree to grab a spot in the Top 10. Miley Cyrus has also submitted in the category, but since Emmy Voters aren't tween girls that might be a tough sell.
