Quantos filmes norte-americanos tem no elenco o gordinho divertido, o Nerd, o magrelo gente boa, o cara que se da bem em esportes, o policial maluco, o cara que odeia o trabalho, a mocinha bonitinha, a mocinha má, a professora velha, o adolescente que enche a cara de alguma coisa, na mesma festa, na casa de alguém, aonde alguém fuma, e finalmente a policia chega e apavora todo mundo? Lembrando que o verão esta acabando, e eles querem ir para a universidade, e estão pensando em quem serão seus respectivos companheiros de quarto, e o ponche esta batizado.

Então, esse filme é mais um desses, e no fim é divertido, vejamos o que nossos vizinhos de cima “ou de baixo se analisarmos um globo terrestre que nos favoreça em uma visão não capitalista demonstrativa do eixo sócio-político do planeta” andam pensando, seus costumes e hábitos, o jeito como falam e como sabem ser engraçados.

Eu gosto de filmes rápidos “aliás gosto dos bem lentos também” e esse é bem rápido graças a atuação enérgica do gordinho engraçado (Jonah Hill) que com tiradas rápidas “uma moça com quem ele dança menstrua na calça dele só para citar um exemplo” deixa o filme leve. Outro destaque fica por conta do mesmo rapaz que fez o namorado da Juno, no filme homônimo ganhador do Oscar, merecidíssimo, diga-se de passagem (uma droga).

Ta... Já falei, o filme é engraçado, talvez porque eu tenha me acostumado ao humor de Superdad e Família da Pesada. Mas se alguém tiver alguma coisa melhor para assistir, pode passar adiante esse filme.

E no fim tudo acaba bem.

Now that I think about it, I'm not really sure.

Anyway, it began like any other night at the hookah bar I always go to. I was sitting with a few friends - Kyle, Miles, and Brent - smoking away while sipping an Irish creme cappuccino, when Kyle (I think) started laughing. I tilted my head inquisitively. "It's McLovin!" Kyle says through his laughter, jerking his head toward the customer who'd just walked in.

And it certainly was. This kid was McLovin. For those of you who have been living under a rock for the past year and a half, McLovin is a character in Superbad, a film about the crazy antics of three dorky-yet-sort-of-lovable high school seniors trying to lose their virginities before graduation. As is expected of any comedy about hormonal high school teens, its humor is crude, vulgar, and sometimes immature - but you love it anyway. And it helps that it was written by Seth Rogen (see IMDb.com: Knocked Up), with much of the script being autobiographical. Anyway, as I was saying, this kid was McLovin: thin wire-framed glasses, short dark brown hair and sweet disposition. Well, eventually we did end up meeting the McLovin doppelganger, and found out his name was Sammy and Kyle didn't hesitate to point out the resemblance. Luckily, he wasn't offended and told us this wasn't the first time someone's commented on it and he didn't mind if we called him McLovin. Even though he took it well and saw the humor in it, I still felt a little guilty - I mean it's not exactly a flattering comparison. But Sammy's a sweetheart and he's awesome and he wants to get into the hotel management business some day. And out of respect, I don't call him McLovin...to his face.

Eu não ria tanto e ficava com cara de bobo alegra a muito tempo. "Superbad" foi produzido pela mesma galera de "O virgem de 40 anos", "Ricky Bobby" e mais uma série de outros bons filmes de comédia. Ele leva vantagem pelo entrosamento de sua equipe, fazendo com que tenha boas piadas, situações ridículas e personagens completamente non-sense. Com isso é sem duvidas um dos melhores filmes de comédia adolescente, junto com "American Pie".

As situações se desenrolam em torno de 3 personagens, o gordinho Seth (Jonah Hill), o sem jeito Evan (Michael Cera) e o nerd idiota Fogell (Christopher Mintz-Plasse). Seth e Evan são amigos de infância que estão completando o segundo grau um déficit constrangedor para suas vidas: nunca transaram com ninguém. Para resolver esse problema eles tem uma missão pela frente, comprar bebidas alcoólicas para impressionar as garotas e quem sabem conseguir alguma coisa. Como eles não possuem idade suficiente para comprar as bebidas, Fogell arruma uma carteira de identidade falsa e vai tentar salvar a foda galera, mas a carteira é tão tosca que ninguém leva fé no cara. Na hora da compra, a loja é assaltada e Fogell acaba na companhia de dois policiais bem retardados e com eles fica dando voltas pela cidade, dando tiro em placas, prendendo um bêbado e principalmente enchendo a cara. Enquanto isso Seth e Evan vão parar em uma festa bem bizarra, com o anfitrião usando uma camisa da seleção brasileira, nego dando teco na frente de Evan e Seth tendo que se explicar porque sua calça está com sangue de menstruação da namorada do dono da casa. Depois de muito rolo e correria eles acabam se encontrando e indo para a festa com o dever cumprido, agora é só beber e tentar catar alguém, ou não...

O DVD é repleto de extras, com cenas excluídas, bastidores e até mesmo um Making Off da dança de abertura com Michael Cera. Filme mais que aprovado, presta demais!!

Seth (Jonah Hill) and Evan (Micheal Cera) are best friends at the end of their senior year in high school. Usually included in the nerd crowd Seth and Evan have finally been invited to a party with the “in crowd”. This is based on the idea that they will each be bringing enough alcohol for the entire party. It’s decided that both guys need to have sex before their college years begins. And they decide it will help if each of their crushes, Jules and Becca, are intoxicated. Their friend with a squeaky voice, Fogell (Christopher Mintz-Plasse) has acquired a fake ID, and so their mission seems simple enough. 

Unfortunately for “McLovin” in mid-purchase of the alcohol, the store is robbed. When the cops arrive (Seth Rogan and Bill Hader) Seth and Evan assume Fogell’s been compromised and their easy liquor and money are gone. They leave on their own journey to the party with the goal of somehow stealing and acquiring their own liquor through a mess of hilarious interludes along the way. Meanwhile, McLovin is off on his own adventure with the two most lazy and corrupt cops in the town. 

With this ridiculous premise and typical teen movie goal of “getting some” will Superbad be able to stand the test of time, or get lost in the mix of other teen movies gone awry? The story itself is without a doubt weak, but it’s so rich with charismatic, scene robbing characters you hardly notice the implausibility or painful lack of common sense the scenes have. The one liners, the outrageous events that occur are simply fall down funny and twenty minutes into the film you don’t really care anymore whether or not it’s realistic, you are too busy laughing. 

While the structure of the story focuses on Evan and Seth moving on in life, Superbad is really about an age when your car is your freedom, yet you are still caged by boundaries of an adult world. In some way it’s got to take everyone back to the days of trying to smuggle a six pack or bottle of vodka out of a store or your parents house to that party they didn’t know you were going to. It’s essentially the last few weeks of that life, before the two move on to college. And while it’s told from mostly a male perspective, the two main female attractions of the story (Emma Stone and Martha MacIsaac) are breaths of fresh air, as they are not your typical idealistic movie crush, they are real girls with their own individual quirky attractiveness. 

Superbad is a hysterically offensive comedy that surely will find it’s way on my shelf next to American Pie, Happy Gilmore, Grandma’s Boy, and Revenge Of The Nerds. Three out of Four Stars

The premiere was at Grauman's Chinese Theatre. I don't really get out there too much. I always forget the motley crew around the periphery of the Chinese. I had to get past Snoopy, French ladies taking pictures with Jack Sparrow, and an AARP Spider-Man. Only in Hollywood I guess. Went up and into the theatre. Proceeded to get my Diet Pepsi and run into Ryan Hansen and his wife Amy. Such a cute couple. He asks me, "What do I do with all this crap?" referring to everything in his envelope. I point out his seats, after party tickets, and parking pass. He laughs. Finally go to my seats.

Everyone's at this premiere! The awesomely awesome Neil Patrick Harris, Alyson Hannigan, Seth Green, Dave Navarro and Stormy Daniels, and EVERYONE who's ever been in an Apatow movie. Imagine the boss from Smart Tech chatting it up with Alison and Ben's crazy doctor. Classic. Wait. Speaking of Knocked Up, didn't see Katherine Heigl there. Hmm..

Director Nicholas Stoller and Jason Segel come out to introduce the film. They joke that they both had NO IDEA what they were doing and proceeded to apologize for what we were about to see. Lights dim and Universal Pictures logo comes up. CAN'T WAIT! I don't want to give anything away, but it was GREAT. I'm definitely going to be seeing this multiple times. Here are some vagued up highlights: The HUGE cereal bowl, the Aldous Snow video, the post break up exchange between Peter and his step brother (Bill Hader), Sarah Marshall's show and her co-star, MILA KUNIS (I still can't stop thinking of Meg Griffin though when I hear her), the state fish of Hawaii, the newlyweds at the hotel and their "problem," Jonah's constant groupie status, Peter's musical project, and during the credits TV show preview. All I can say is GO SEE THIS MOVIE ON APRIL 18th!!!

The after party was at The Annex @ Hollywood and Highland. I cannot believe the amount of people at this party. Finally get up to the spot and am greeted with a mango cocktail. How refreshing. Eventually I head over to look for KB. Go up to Ryan and Amy who are at KB's table and ask them where she is. Ryan says she's outside. Head outside or at least try to. OMG it was like being on a Tokyo subway. Eventually find KB.

Hug and kiss and she points out her mom. I'm glad that her mom was able to make it out. See Jason and congratulate him on the film. My sister has loved him since I introduced her to How I Met Your Mother.

I end up losing my sister because I play lead blocker for KB's mom so she can get back in to the table. Say hello to her step dad. Really surprised they both remembered me. I hadn't seen them since the Pulse premiere.

Go off to find Mila Kunis. She looked great. Sister snaps a pic of us. There's an unfortunate flash malfunction with my camera. It's fine. Macaulay Culkin is hanging with Mila, so I snap a pic of my sister with him.

Make my way back to KB's table. I really want to ask her if she's actually going to reunite with Veronica Mars creator Rob Thomas on his new show Good Behavior AKA Outrageous Fortune. Ryan and Amy are leaving so I say farewell. I ask Ryan what he's going to be working on next. He tells me that he's going to be in the new Friday The 13th movie that will shoot in Austin, TX soon. Good for him! Get over to KB's mom who has now busted out a video camera which incidentally she used later... She catches a tender moment between Dax and KB. Eventually I ask KB about the show. Here's the scoop: She can't join the project because she's shooting the film When In Rome for three months. Scheduling just wouldn't allow it. She's even going to be delayed getting back to Heroes. She does say she can't wait to reunite with Rob. There. YOU HEARD IT HERE FIRST! Everyone else seems to still be attaching her to Rob's show. It's a shame because it sounds like a great premise, but it'll be great to keep seeing KB on the big screen.

KB wants to get her groove on, so she heads to the dance floor. I cannot stop laughing. She really got her GROOVE on. She's doing the robot. She's busting out every dance move you would have seen on a Soul Train dance line. Fan Freaking Tastic! After a good amount of time bringing sexy back, she's ready to go. Give her a hug good-bye. My sister and I start making our way out and who do we see? None other than McLovin himself, Christopher Mintz-Plasse. My sister must have a picture with the absolutely fabulous McLovin!

It was a great movie and a great night. Thank you, Universal! Did I already mention GO WATCH IT on April 18th?! Well... GO WATCH FORGETTING SARAH MARSHALL APRIL 18th! You'll love it!

Jimmy Strikes Back!

What makes this second video hilarious (aside from the obvious running joke that Jimmy and Sarah have going) is the amount of celebrities that participated in this video. Yet another reason why I still think Jimmy was the better "Man Show" host! Go Jimmy!

Well, you see, Jimmy Kimmel retaliated with a bigger video, with more star power than you can shake a Matt Damon at! Check it out, you'll be glad you did!

Not quite as funny as Sarah Silverman's video in my opinion, but still worth watching. First, Sarah Silverman said she's f*cking Matt Damon, so what does Jimmy Kimmel do? He says he's f*cking Ben Affleck!

It doesn't try to tread a different path when it comes to the story - still the familiar bunch of oversexed guys who are desperate to get laid once before they finish school. In this case Evan and Seth who've never successfully made it to a party before have a final chance at getting laid at one - only this time they have the onus of bringing in the alcohol. Assisting them in this task is their friend Fogo/McLovin, who with his fake id claims to get them the drinks. Their (mis)adventures constitute the rest of the movie.

What differentiates this movie from other teen comedies (like American Pie series, Road Trip etc.) is its reliance primarily on outrageously hilarious dialogue rather than characters caught in risque situations. Seth (Jonah Hill) - the guy with a major "dick fixation" gets to mouth the filthiest stuff and is the major source of humor in this movie. However, it is debutant Christopher Mintz-Plasse's turn as "McLovin" which is the funniest part of the whole enterprise. The entire sequence which begins with him announcing his fake id to Seth till the arrival of the cops in the liqour store is the one I enjoyed the most. Michael Cera gets a relatively less conspicuous role but nonetheless he shines.

In a short period of time Rogen, Goldberg and Apatow seem to have became the kings of adult comedy - with the envious distinction of scoring box office successes accompanied with even greater critical acclaim. Their next venture "Pineapple Express" is due to come out in April....should be interesting to watch (if it makes it to theatres here)!

Superbad es la última cinta estrenada del grupo de jovenes escritores y productores del nuevo estilo de hacer comedias en Hollywood. A su haber tienen títulos reconocidos como The 40 Year Old Virgin y Knocked Up, la primera simpática, la segunda muy buena. Sin duda Apatow Productions (del nuevo rey de la comedia, Judd Apatow) va mejorando ya que Superbad es definitivamente Supergood! En algún lado leí que en el fondo esta se trata de una historia épica y sin duda lo es. Seth (Jonah Hill) y Evan (Michael Cera) son dos jóvenes parias sociales en su último año en el colegio, que con la intención de mejorar su imagen y acostarse con el objeto del deseo respectivo de cada uno, deciden hacer lo imposible por conseguir alcohol para la última gran fiesta del año y ser así los héroes de la noche. ¿Otra comedia tonta de adolescentes amantes del copete? No, no, no. Es una historia con adolescentes, pero que nos habla a todos, con un estilo de comedia único y un guión muy bien hecho. Lo mejor de esta película es que cumple con su género, ya que no solo se van a reír, sino que varias veces se sorprenderán con sus propias carcajadas.

No me gustan las comedias. Esa era mi declaración de principios a la hora de enfrentarme a alguna película de este género. Soy sin duda  de la generación que llegaba del colegio a ver Seinfeld o Friends, y aunque estas me hacían reír (en especial la primera), las versiones larga duración de comedias gringas no me sacaban ni una sonrisa. Últimamente, y de la mano de Apatow Productions, he tenido que tragarme mis propias palabras. Knocked Up (cuya crítica pueden leer aquí) es una comedia divertida que, sin ser petulante, nos demuestra que la inteligencia puede convivir con los jajaja. Superbad, no es menos inteligente, pero sí más lúdica, al centrarse en la vida de dos patéticos adolescentes en sus últimos días de colegio.

Seth y Evan, amigos de toda la vida, se enfrentan a la triste separación que significa ir a universidades distintas. Esta devastadora situación parece ser asumida por todos los conocidos de la dupla, pero no por ellos mismos, quienes se niegan a demostrar alguna emoción debido a este suceso. Sin embargo, algo delata que ellos saben que lo que se viene es dificil y temen encararlo solos, es por eso que esta última gran cruzada de la dupla (comprar copete) se transforma en una batalla épica digna de una oruga que intenta salir del capullo para sobrevivir en el mundo exterior. Enfrentados a la prohibición de venta de alcohol a menores de 21 años en gringolandia, se unen al más patético aún Fogell (Christopher Mintz-Plasse) quien recientemente logró hacerse de una identificación falsa que lo describe como un hawaiano de 25 años llamado simplemente McLovin (Mc = Make, Lovin = Love. Make Love = Hacer el Amor). Seth, desesperado por la pelotudez de Fogell al ponerse ese nombre para la identificación comienza a enfurecerse al ver que su misión se complica, además comienzan a aparecer las primeras diferencias con su gran amigo Evan, todo esto acentuado por la presión por cumplir y por la inminente separación.

Sin duda en la película veremos uno de los desarrollos más interesantes de relaciones personales que nos muestra el cine del último tiempo. En un poco menos de dos horas somos testigos de la evolución de una relación de amistad infantil que llega al borde del quiebre y se recupera, transformándose en una amistad más madura. No quiero relatar más detalles de la película, ni siquiera nombrar la serie de peripecias en las que cae el trío por lograr cumplir su objetivo. Sólo voy a decir que los personajes secundarios son sin duda fantásticos y tan divertidos como los principales, mención especial a la dupla policial formada por Seth Rogen (también productor del film) y Bill Harder, además de las jovenes Becca (Martha MacIsaac) y Jules (Emma Stone).

Superbad nos habla a todos, ya que quién no tuvo en algun momento de su adolescencia un día increíblemente bueno (o increíblemente malo), cuya sucesión de eventos nos hizo pensar estar en una fantástica o cruel película hollywoodense. Sin duda yo recuerdo algunos, sobre todo aquél en el cual el objetivo de un amigo y el mio era llegar a la fiesta de una niña que en algún momento me gustó. Luego de horas intentando hacerlo (a pesar de vivir en la misma ciudad) dije, acabado y derrotado: "Solo falta que se ponga a llover"... la magia de la vida aveces es más impresionante que la del cine, nunca olvidaré esa lluvia. Les recomiendo absolutamente ver Superbad, es un IMPERDIBLE y espero que las próximas ideas de estos grandes de la comedia vuelva a dar frutos como este, de momento ya hay un par de proyectos en los cuales están trabajando, así que es cosa de esperar un par de meses y volver a soltar las carcajadas.

Hollywood Reporter has a press release about a new Apatow Company production called "Year One". Listen to the laundry list of folks popping up in this flick: Jack Black, Michael Cera, Oliver Platt, Vinnie Jones, David Cross, and...McLovin himself, Christopher Mintz-Plasse. It is written and directed by the genius of Harold Ramis! It sounds like it is set during Biblical times. With Apatow and Ramis running the show, I am sure this will be filled with Mel Brooks-like Jewish humor.

Når en ny amerikansk komedie er frekk nok til å snike seg et godt stykke inn på listen over tidenes 250 beste filmer, etter at over 40 000 brukere har gitt sine stemmer på IMDb, så har jeg egentlig ikke noe valg. Jeg måtte se Superbad.

"Calm down, calm down. She likes you. She wants to suck on your penis. That's a good thing. It's the best."

Ok, dette er en pubertal komedie om tre hormonsprengte tenåringsgutter på jakt etter alkohol og sex i siste semester på High School. Det er begrenset hvor originalt det kan bli. Men Superbad har heldigvis litt mer å fare med enn sine fleste sjangersøsken. American Pie inkludert. Ikke fordi historien er nyskapende og revitaliserer sjangeren. Det gjør den ikke. Men fordi det er noe sjeldent genuint over karakterene, dialogen og egentlig hele tonen i filmen. En konstant fuck-brautende Jonah Hill tar riktignok litt for mye plass i noen scener, men stort sett funker samspillet mellom karakterene strålende. Michael Cera imponerer jevnt over best med sitt presise kroppsspråk og komiske timing. Men det er den største nerden i flokken, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, aka "McLovin", som skaper de største latterutbruddene og som med sitt "fake ID" er nøkkelen til trioens suksess. Jenter... alkohol... av med truse. You know the drill.

Nå løper riktignok ikke jeg ned kinoene hver gang det kommer en ny komedie, rett og slett fordi det knapt lages to-tre severdige filmer i tiåret av den typen, men Superbad er absolutt verdt en inngangsbillett. Og sammenlignet med alt annet Hollywood spyr ut av lavpannede komedier, så er kanskje Superbad for øyeblikket sjangerens egen Citizen Kane. Men ikke pokker om dette er en film som har noe å gjøre på en liste over tidenes 250 beste filmer. Jada, filmen er hyggelig og morsom. Men det er tross alt bare 4-5 scener som er virkelig latterfremkallende. Det er flere dødpunkter underveis (særlig i midtpartiet er det null fremdrift og komedien blir litt krampeaktig og gjentagende) i et udiskutabelt uoriginalt plott. Filmen er utvilsomt morsom, men det er dessverre skapt forventninger som den umulig kan oppfylle.

Aunque esto es cierto sólo en parte, porque precisamente los losers son los protagonistas de Supersalidos (Superbad, 2007). Sólo que, al estar la película escrita precisamente por dos de ellos, en cuyas peripecias se basa la trama, aquí se da la vuelta a la tortilla. De sufridos secundarios pasan a reyes del mambo. Y se agradece. Se agradece "sufrir" con sus patéticos esfuerzos por comprar bebida (son menores), llegar a tiempo a la fiesta que montan unas chicas, y usar esa bebida para emborracharlas y conseguir de ellas algo más que un casto besito en la mejilla. Sobre este esqueleto, una retahíla de chistes soeces, diálogos de besugos, carreras, tortas, sonrisas y lágrimas.

Y hallazgos. Hallazgos como la pareja protagonista, tanto Seth (Jonah Hill), con sobrepecio y sobregracia, como el agobiado y tímido Evan (Michael Cera), perfecto contrapunto el uno del otro. Y sobre todo, ese Fogell (Christopher Mintz-Plasse), a.k.a. McLovin, feo, desmañado y brutalmente descharrante, que monta un trío (en el sentido más inocente) imposible con una pareja de policías pasados de rosca.

Aire puro para el futuro de una comedia que, después de todo, parece que puede dar más de sí que American Pies y Road Trips, sucesiones de gags con poca gracia y cero argumento.

When I first saw the ad for Superbad, I thought it'd be a less funny Knocked Up. Especially since I thought Jonah Hill had no sense of humor whatsoever. Was I wrong, ever since I've seen it, I've gotten everyone I know to see it, and I saw it another time just for shits...

Look, we all know Home Ec. is a joke. No offense. It's just like everyone takes this class to get an A. It's bullshit, and I'm sorry. And I'm not putting down your profession, but it's just the way I feel. I don't want to sit here all by myself, cooking this shitty food - no offense - and I just think that I don't ever need to cook tiramisu. When am I gonna need to cook tiramisu? Am I gonna be a chef? It's been a damn good year for comedies, that's for certain. Superbad picks up the gauntlet and runs with it, assembling a brilliant comic team of writers and performers for a shockingly hilarious and brilliant comic take on adolescence and friendship that blows the American Pie films out of the water. Superbad was written by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, the Vancouver born duo that also penned Knocked Up. Superbad was directed by former television director Greg Mottola and was produced by Judd Apatow, the producer of Knocked Up and The 40-Year-Old Virgin.

The film follows two high school seniors, Evan (Michael Cera of Arrested Development) and Seth (Jonah Hill of Accepted and Knocked Up), as they reach the final days of their high school lives. The two interdependent friends have relied on one another for years and neither one is too socially adept, making for some interesting situations and for a worrisome future when it turns out that they have been accepted into different colleges. Evan and Seth spot one last night of redemption and fun at a keg party. Through a series of comical and oddly poignant events, the two discover that their friendship is evolving as time changes.

Evan is a shy, sweet and nervous wreck of a kid. He has been accepted into Dartmouth and plans on rooming with a mutual companion, a kid named Fogell (Christopher Mintz-Plasse). Seth, on the other hand, is going to a state university and is relatively the opposite of Evan. He is foul-mouthed, obnoxious and obsessed with sex. The two have a lot in common, however, including being largely ignored by the popular crowd at their high school. With the keg party upcoming, the pair enlist the help of Fogell and his fake I.D. to get some alcohol and to hopefully win some popularity.

Superbad is a non-stop barrage of sexual humour and rich, natural dialogue. The characters interact flawlessly and the comedic timing of these future comic stars is impeccable. Michael Cera is a true wonder here, as he picks off all of the elements of his character with expert precision and delivers such a complete and basic performance. His subtle tones and inflections are just tremendous fun to watch and Cera paints a picture of the kid we all knew or, better still, the kid we all were in some way. Hill is in charge of most of the deliberate comedy here, as his sexually obsessed and obnoxious character has no real way with women and fails to see how he can get any action without alcohol. Hill pulls no punches, delivering scorching line after scorching line with diatribes that would make Redd Foxx blush.

Superbad is one hell of a film to end the summer on. For those fed up with CGI-laden exploders and lackluster ideas coming in threes, this film is the ideal relief for such an endless siege of nonsense. Superbad combines heart, slapstick, empathy, and gross-out humour in one charming package of a film. Seth Rogen, who also plays a significant role in the film, and Evan Golberg have written another comedy classic that will help provide other comedy writers with a blueprint as to how to achieve true and hearty laughs. The formula here is rather simple, actually. Rogen and Goldberg have taken truly unique stories and drenched them in humanity, giving us all relatable elements and driving the story home without blowing it on an overabundance of fluff.

Superbad cements the notion that Rogen and Apatow saved film comedy this year (sorry, Sean Burns) and that comedy is, indeed, hardly a dead art form in film. Personally, I have long struggled to find substance and quality within comedies through the years. There were flashes of absolute brilliance, like Borat, but 2007 has represented a whole new fabric of quality films that have delivered new hope into a dying genre. Superbad, Knocked Up, and The Simpsons Movie are all films that arguably stole the summer from the normative blockbuster schlock. Superbad represents all that is good in comedy films: a brilliant and genuinely funny script, terrific comic actors, and heart.
