Let me preface this blog by letting you know, I’m not the happiest camper in the world. Yes, I

Let me preface this blog by letting you know, I'm not the happiest camper in the world. Yes, I know that's been the general theme of my latest blogs, but now, I have reason.

At least for tonight. As of this writing I just watched the Boston Red Sox play like utter rubbish. It's a well known fact that I'm a huge fan of the Sox, and as of the last two games, they've really left me upset. But I don't think many people come her for my in depth thoughts on sports. This isn't necessarily a sports blog, so I try to limit that stuff for special occasions. But in all honesty, if you want my thoughts on the last two Sox games in the ALCS email me. I'll go off.

Today however as I was away from my computer for most of the day watching the Sox, I come back and have received an IM from JDub.

http://daisyoflovecasting.com/

So I obviously click the link to find out what my friend has in store for me.

Upon arrival, I, like you may have, notice that this is a site dedicated to the application proccess of getting on Daisy from Rock of Love 2's new spinoff show. I can't tell you how excited I am to apply.

I have decided that obtaining a job and trying to pay my bills is horseshit. I shall no longer be streessed out about it. I shall, however, apply to be on Daisy's Rock of Love spinoff. Everyone knows how I was such a fan of Daisy during the entire last season.

In fact, I think I may have referred to her as half retarded in one of my previous blogs. By the way after watching Tropic Thunder I've found that I can make fun of people who are half retarded. It's only when I make fun of people that are fully retarded that I get in real trouble. Thanks Tropic Thunder.

Anyway, back to my new quest of being on Daisy's new show. I don't see as how this could possibly be a bad thing. I mean, I'm somewhat good looking. I don't have any tattoos, nor do I dress in Ed Hardy and wear makeup, but maybe this is what Daisy could be looking for. Last couple of guys we have seen her with have been all decked out and Rockstarish.

The closest I have ever come to being rockstarish was the last time I was in Las Vegas, trying to convience my friends I should get a new tattoo. And by new, I mean my first one. However my friends seeing how drunk I was, decided that was probably not a good idea, and now probably stand in the way of me hooking up with Daisy. This depresses me.

I mean I think I'd be good for Daisy. We'd look like a modern day Barbie and Ken. That is, if Barbie got all strung out and started effing random band members. And it would also pertain if I had a hot pink Corvette and no private parts, yet still wore skin colored underpants.

Last time I checked some douche posing in front of a Rolls Royce Phantom that he walked by while taking a site seeing tour in LA was in the lead position to be cast on Daisy of Love. He's only got six thousand votes. I'm pretty sure I could take him. Plus if I make it on the show, I could put that on my resume.

Daisy of Love Cast Member
Responsible for staying continually drunk.
Attempted make out with said Daisy.
Semi-finalist.

I'm not sure what new job that could land me, aside from a future in porn, or extensive and thorough knowledge of STDs and gynecology.

So I haven't applied yet, but if I can wrangle up a couple more than six thousand votes, it's something I might highly consider.

That's all for now...

Surprise, surprise another Daisy lesson based on a book. You may be asking yourself why so many of

Surprise, surprise another Daisy lesson based on a book. You may be asking yourself why so many of our meetings involve children's literature. Well let me tell you. For starters Daisies and Brownies can be easily distracted and don't grasp abstract ideas all that well. Children's books engage the girls visually, audibly, and linguistically. Which is a fancy way of saying that you are engaging more of their senses.

If you just talk to the girls their eyes may wonder, if you are just showing pictures they may be distracted by other sounds in the room. So it is usually best to keep them fully engaged. Abstract ideas like the Girl Scout Law can be difficult for the girls to fully grasp. Yes, they know they should be friendly and helpful, but when we present this law in an abstract way, we have no way of knowing if they really have an idea of how to make that law a part of their own lives. Reading a story that reflects the law gives them a concrete example of the law and a great basis for discussion.

This lesson will focus on being friendly and helpful, considerate and caring, and courageous and strong. (You may want to choose just one aspect of the law to talk about with your girls. It's up to you and what you think would be best for your group.)

How Spider Saved Halloween In this story Spider is going to go trick or treating with his good friend lady bug, and lady bug's friend fly. Fly of course is not too crazy about spider. Spider proves himself a loyal and courageous friend when he gives of himself to "save Halloween".

Snack: Spider Cookies. Ritz crackers, choclate icing, raisins for eyes, stick pretzels for legs, craft sticks to spread icing. Give each girl one cracker, then pass out craft sticks with icing on them ask the girls to spread it on the cracker (tell the girls they are to be responsible for what I say and do, if they eat all of the icing before it is on the cracker it is their responsibility), each girl will then recieve 2 eyes and 8 pretzels (it might be fun to let them help with the counting), guide the girls in placing 4 pretzels on the edge of one side of the cracker and 4 on the other, place the eyes on. Now you have a yummy snack!! This is another idea for a spider snack.

Shared Reading: Read How Spider Saved Halloween. Ask the girls how fly felt about spider? (he didn't like spider too much) Why? Could it be because he was different? (remind the girls that when we respect our selves and others, we are accepting that we are not all the same, but we can still be friends.) What was spider's problem at the start of the book? (He didn't know what to be for Halloween) How did he decide what to be? (When Ladybug's pumpkin was smashed she was very sad. Spider wanted to help, so he dressed up like a pumpkin Friendly and Helpful.) What happened when the 3 friends saw the bullies who had smashed the pumpkin? (The bullies were scared of the walking, talking pumpkin. Of course it was really spider all dressed up. Remind the girls that sometimes they will come across others who are bullies, but bullies are usually scared and unhappy themselves.) Do you think spider was scared of the bullies? (Yes, but he didn't want them to pick on his friends so he showed courage and stood up to them Courageous and Strong.)

Activity: Show the girls how to draw a simple spider. First draw a circle and then draw 4 legs on each side of the circle and add a face. Now encourage each of the girls to think of a different costume for the spider to wear. Have them draw that costume on the spider. You may want to keep their drawings and make them into a book that they can read together each week. (If you do enough of this type of activity you will have enough group books for each girl to take home.)

Other spider crafts: Handprint Spiders , Spider Bracelet

This is an easy but meaningful lesson for the girls!!

I tend to see the word in black and white and tend to rely on my logical deduction a little too heavily. It's not all bad though! Like, I believe that for a person to not notice flowers while walking past them or a variety of colors of leaves on the ground is missing out. Flat out. Or if a person doesn't look for patterns in the clouds at least once a week or whenever they get to see them if in Southern California.... their life is void of imagination. One more: No women looks good in spandex. I am not discriminating against the heavier women because I probably have more cellulite then most women out there.... but all women just shouldn't wear it! Nothing good comes from wearing it!

The first year of Daisies can really be devoted to learning the various parts of the Girl Scout Law.

The first year of Daisies can really be devoted to learning the various parts of the Girl Scout Law. Feel free to combine them in each lesson.

Sometimes our youngest Girl Scouts may feel that they are too small to make a difference. Many of them are timid and shy and may be intimidated by the older girls. This is a lesson for Daisies to encourage them to be Courageous and Strong, while learning to be Friendly and Helpful and Respect Myself and Others.

Prior to reading the story ask the girls if they have ever felt too young or too small to help someone else. Have they ever been afraid? Would they be afraid if they were bigger? Tell them that in today's story they will learn that something small can grow into something bigger than anyone could imagine, but it sometimes takes courage!!

The lesson starts with The Tiny Seed by Eric Carle. This is the story of a tiny seed that is carried by the wind across harsh elements. As you follow the travels of the tiny seed you will also follow the changing season. By the end of the book, the girls will realize that size is not what is most important. Sometimes having the courage to grow and change is what really matters and even the smallest of things can grow into something beautiful.

Read The Tiny Seed, pointing out elements of the story that would require courage (ie almost being eaten by a fish, flying close to the sun...). Ask the girls if the tiny seed stayed tiny (no, it grew into a giant flower). Look at the page where the tiny seed has grown ino a lovey flower and birds and butterflies have come to see it. Ask the Daisies if the tiny seed was friendly and helpful? (yes, butterflies and some birds feed on the nector of flowers)

Snack: Sunflower trail mix. Bring a combinaiton of items for trail mix, be sure to inclued sunflower seed nuts. Tell the girls that today they will hear a story about a seed. Items you might include in the mix: sunflower seed nuts, raisins, M&M's...Pour all ingredients into a zip lock, and allow each girl to shake it. Remember to always check for food allergies.

Activity: Purchase at least 3 different types of flower seed packets (could be daisies, sunflower and zinias). Compare the seeds. Are they the same or different? Tell the girls that even though the seeds are different they all produce lovely flowers.

Ask the girls if the seeds all look the same. Then ask the girls if they all like the same things? No, but they are all beautiful in their own unique way. Remind the girls that Girl Scouts Respect Myself And Others, and that one way to follow this law is to accept that we are all different, and that is okay. The world is a much better place with flowers of many colors, wouldn't it be boring if they were all the same.

Craft: Our new Daisy leader Misty shared this craft.

The girls will make a Daisy Craft that will help them to remember the Girl Scout Law. Remind them that a Daisy is a flower, and just like the tiny seed they (as Daisy GS) are growing. Every time they follow the GS Law they are growing in Charcter. Character is what make us who we are, when we make good choices we are growing in beauty. Remind them that sometimes it takes courage to make right choice, but if they are courageous and strong they will grow into something beautiful, just like the tiny seed.

As they work tell them that they are never to young to make a difference. Ask them ways that they can be friendly and helpful. Finally you may want to introduce a service project. Do they have toys that could be donated to a shelter, could they bring canned goods for someone's Thanksgiving...

As always, they help clean and straighten up their meeting area. Girl Scouts always leave a place better than how they found it.

You don't have to hang around this blog very long to figure out that my dogs are very important members of our family. Today was a semi-traumatic day for us. Charlie was neutered and Daisy had a "Quick" surgery. I spent my evening nursing these two who haven't quite fully come out of their anesthetic. They are a bit wobbly, tried and slightly confused. I told Sierra they acted as if they had been smoking weed together. She asked me how I knew what that looked like since I've never used weed (true) and I said I just know from all the movies I watched in the 80's. They look like Cheech and Chong.

I did have one terrifying moment when I went back to pick them up in the afternoon. When I checked in with the receptionist, she said... "The doctor would like to speak to you in one of the exam rooms." I was a wreck. I thought for sure something had happened to one of them. All of the blood left my face and my heart started to race. I said... "Why? What's wrong?" All I heard her say was Charlie and stomach. A huge lump developed in my throat and I started to think there was some major complication. I just blurted out... "Is he alive?" She said, "Oh yes, he's fine. He just has a rash." I was so relived, but part of me wanted to reach across the desk and ring her neck for scaring me like that.

Charlie's surgery is pretty self explanitory. (A friend reminded me of a Far Side cartoon... "Charlie's going to get tutored tomorrow. He's going to be SO SMART!") He did well but will be stuck with an E Collar when he's in the kennel or left alone. He's on antibiotic and will have his stitches out in 2 weeks.

Daisy's surgery was a new one to me. It's called a Nail Quick surgery and basically all they do is put her to sleep and cut her nails way back. Then, they cauterize the nail to stop the bleeding. This will shorten the Quick of her nail and then we can keep the cut back shorter.

The weirdest thing about having her home is that I can't hear her walking anymore. Her little feet have always made a scraping sound in the kitchen, and even on the carpet I could hear her little nails clicking together. We're going to have to be careful that we don't step on her now.

Because every mom deserves a break once an a while. Same with dads. That's why on Monday, his next day off, I'm not letting him watch Jayden while I go online or watch TV or anything like that. It's his day off, not mine. What a guy.

Nick also loves having family over. Or being with him. His mom comes over at least 4 times a month. Sometimes more. When she can't come here, or is out of town, he calls her. Now it's not like I don't like that he loves his mom and wants to talk to her, it's the phone bill I'm not so cool with. Oh well.

He loves coming home to a smiling baby girl and a happy wife. Sadly, that can't always happen. But it usually does and when it does it's a really good thing. Obviously. Usually, if I'm having a bad day he says, "Oh, you go rest for a minute. I'll start dinner/watch Jayden/clean up." I LOVE that.

I'm really happy I married this guy. I am definitley not doubting that our marriage will end anytime soon. The 'spark' is definitley still there. And there would really be no good reason to end it. Unless something happens, that is. I don't think anything will, though.

Jay-lee

Jayden Vera Presley. This little girl is just a joy to have around. I love her and her daddy with everything I have. From the first time I saw her, (the first ultrasound) I knew I would love her so much. And I do. Hm. Well I'm still trying to figure everything out about this girl.

For starters, she's really curious. If she sees something new she'll stare at it for a while. And I guess if she likes what she sees, she'll make this little squeaking noise. If she doesn't she simply looks away. Good thing too, I wouldn't want her to make a fuss about that. Occasionally, if someone is holding it out for her to look at, she'll make this face and turn her head. If she doesn't like it, that is. If she does she'll grab it.

This kid hates being put down. She'll give you this look, like you told her she can't eat for the rest of the year. Then she'll cry. I hate seeing that. Nick is constantly telling me I can't keep picking her up or else she'll think she can do whatever. And I guess it's true. I'm trying not to because she has a little brother/sister coming kind of soon and I can't hold two babies in my arms at a time. Well I can, but you know what I mean.

Jayden is also really shy. She isn't a very big fan of people she doesn't know holding her and playing with her. She alright with other babies playing with her, though. Oh well, maybe she'll grow out of this. I definitley don't want her to be shy. She wasn't always this shy, though.

Hmmm. Well do you guys really want to know about the dog? She loves kids and is a good 'big sister' to Jayden. Sorry, Daisy, but there wasn't too much to say about you. Love you!

Thanks to Ed for the grape vine (sultana) that he gave us - it is now g for green.

Once our rainwater tank is installed on the 22nd of October, we'll be able to plant the grape vine so it can climb up and around the tank. We'll also find a passionfruit to climb on the RWT, and maybe even a kiwi if it will handle our climate.

All of the fruit trees now have green on them. The peach has about 5 blossoms, and the plum and almond are starting to look almost bushy. I'm just glad that none of them died over winter or suffered too badly from our rough planting.

Also on the growing front - some MASSIVE daisy bushes. So HUGE in fact that one of the bushes has fallen apart from the weight of the leaves and flowers. Woops!

Our poor dog Daisy has had a rough couple of weeks. It started about two weeks ago when Grant and

Our poor dog Daisy has had a rough couple of weeks. It started about two weeks ago when Grant and I went to visit John's parents in Ouray. We boarded Daisy while we were gone. I picked her up on Sunday evening and when she came home she was thrilled to see everyone. If you know our dog, you know she has no control of her tail and wags it very energetically. It's almost as if she has a broomstick attached to her rear end because it is so strong and destructive if you get her going. While she was greeting all of us, we noticed Grant had blood on his face that wasn't his own. After some investigation, we realized Daisy's tail had come in contact with his cheek and left some blood. We called the vet and told them that Daisy's tail was bleeding. They immediately said, "Oh, we call that 'happy tail.'" Apparently when a dog is an "exuberant" wagger like Daisy, they can sometimes hit it just right on something and cause it to bleed. Daisy was bleeding on the tip of her tail - the worst spot. We took her into the vet and they couldn't get a bandage to stay on, so we just dealt with it for a week. We could get the bleeding stopped with some pressure, but if she even tapped it on a wall or furniture, it would open up again. Our apartment literally looked like a crime scene. When Daisy would wag her bleeding tail, blood would get splattered all over the walls, appliances, floors... and when her tail would actually come in contact with one of those surfaces, it would leave a big blood smear. So, we finally took her back to the vet again today and asked if there was anything else we could try. "Yes," they said, "but she won't be happy." The treatment involved shaving the last third of her tail, wrapping guaze and cotton and tape around her tail, then tying her tail to her hind leg to keep her from wagging it. To top it off, she has to wear an E-Collar so she can't reach around and chew the bandage off. The vet said she needs to keep the bandage on for at least a week to allow for complete healing. We feel so bad for the poor dog, but we know it's for the best. Maybe now I can get the blood cleaned up for good.

My goeie vriend PJ "Blou Bul" van Zyl stuur vir my die brief.

At the beginning of September...my sister, hubby and I flew into Salt Lake City, Utah...rented a car..and drove 3,700 miles! Yikes! We drove through Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, North Dakota, South Dakota...through the panhandle of Nebraska, and then back to Salt Lake City...where we flew home from. We actually averaged 370 miles a day, because the last three days of our vacation were spent in Salt Lake City. My sister is big into geneology, so she spent her free time at the Morman Library. She was one happy camper. "They only charge 10 cents a copy!" I, too was a happy camper. I was in the scrapbooking capital of the world! Guess what I did...yup...I went shopping :) Sending out a shout out to Paper Creations @ 1140 E. Brickyard ....and to Mom & Me Scrapbooking at 2199 E 3300 South. Staff at both of those stores were very friendly, and helpful. Both stores were packed with crafty goodness. I spent $200. between the two! I must have bought close to 100 sheets of patterned paper, a Melissa Frances kit, Melissa Frances frames, buttons, chipboard, 7 gypsies goodies, rubons...die cuts...MME, Prima, Daisy D's, journaling tags, you name it, I prolly bought it! Here are pictures of my newest stash of stuff:

The next store I hit was We-R-Memory Keepers...well...not really a "store" per se...but the outlet area at their Headquarters. I purchased a few paper kits, packages of chipboard, a package of eyelets and snaps, and a 6x6 D-ring binder. I think that cost another $50....boy...I went to town..didn't I?

Okay...I'm off to make the "rounds" of inspiration on the net. Maybe I'll stop and read your blog...who knows! Thanks for stopping at mine.

First off, let me apologize for my negligence of this site! I had told myself I would keep it up

First off, let me apologize for my negligence of this site! I had told myself I would keep it up better. I enjoy doing it. I am probably one of the very few people of my age that don't have a myspace or facebook, so I tried to keep this up after my computer class last year just for the fun. I have strong views against myspace and facebook. I was into it once, and all it is, is a place to brag about yourself and put yourself out there and it is just wrong. I know--everyone disagrees with me--but that's my opinion! I have a right to that, right? But I just don't see the use of putting personal information up like that and for those reasons.
I promise you, my recipes and life stories are on here to put a smile on your face and make your life more enjoyable! I HOPE!

SO, back to "Daisy"...I felt bad because I hadn't posted a picture of my baby on here! So there she is! She's my "little" stinker! Yes, she's grown a lot! I need to get an even newer picture! But she is my time consumer. I have had to be extra careful to put college before puppy, friends, and free time. I'm doing pretty good. I run home after work and we go for a walk thru our woods and we usually get done just before dark. Then I help with dinner and after dinner I'm up till late doing homework and then I go to bed when I get done. I'm ending up being a very tired person but it's working. I'm worried about when the time changes!! :( Also, I was sick as could be last week and Daisy missed me so much but my family helped out with giving her love. I'm thankfully feeling better now.

My cooking: I have not had time to cook at all hardly. I know, I'm sooo ashamed :( But between homework and my recent illness there hasn't been much time. I must guiltily admit that Monday night I made snickerdoodles in between homework, etc. My mom helped me to wash some of the dishes too. But they were sooo good. There were only a few left today! I've been sending them with dad to work. I had an unhappy employee who had missed my baking! You know how those employees can get without my sweetness! HA HA! Too many sweet teethed people out there! :-P

Hope all is well...I'm gonna try to keep this up better. I have lots of free time between classes on Wednesday's so I've been bringing my laptop so I plan to at least have 1 post a week! I will try to have a foody one next week!

God Bless! Bakerista

me quiere? no me quiere?

We recently did a baby shower that was held in the adjacent restaurant. The organizer wanted colourful bouquets, with a summery feel and we were only too happy to oblige. The table centerpieces were created using flowers such as daisies, roses, rose hips, and small sunflowers. They were put in glass cube vases wrapped with ribbon and finally "garnished" with butterflies.
