Oui, les photos sont retouchées dans les magazines. Non, ce que l'on voit (ce qu'on nous montre) et la réalité sont deux choses bien distinctes. Et donc oui cela pose un problème de véracité. Vrai, véritable, vraisemblable, réel : il y a des nuances.

Certaines voix s'élèvent contre le groupe grand-guignolesque Lordi (vainqueur de l'Eurovision 2006 au grand dam de Michel Drucker) dont le clip du tube "Hard Rock Hallelujah" montre une jeune adolescente semant la terreur sur son campus. Rien à voir avec les 56 armes à feu pour 100 habitants (on peu en posséder une dès 15 ans) ?

Building off of these two ideas, today we will explore some bands who have taken the idea to its logical end, and have fully integrated the fantastic into their band.

First, there are two obvious bands that produce songs (duh), the content of which is almost wholly based on some sort of fantastic story.  3 Inches of Blood and Mastodon both make their living on songs about killer Robots, living treemen, Orcs sharpening their axes, and Ahab stalking his whale.  Both bands have decided to set aside the common metal themes of death, destruction, mental illness, and fighting the man.  Instead skewing those themes into the tales told within their lyrics.

I have covered 3 Inches of Blood before with their video for "Deadly Sinners," this time we will look at their video for "Trial of Champions."   I find this video hilarious because the production values are intentionally low, the "gladiators" might as well be wearing Nike's.

Mastodon became popular with their album Leviathan, a whole album based on Moby Dick. With their album Blood Mountain, Mastodon eschewed a whole theme album, but definitely stayed in the realm of created story.  A good example is the Sci-fi themed video for "Sleeping Giant"

Moving beyond bands with theme topics in their songs, we reach bands who have taken on themes for their band.  These bands have decided to create whole careers on their band sticking to the chosen theme.

Amon Amarth is a Viking Band.  Their songs are all based on Vikings or Norse mythology. I have seen this band live, and they bring some viking flair to the show.  The lead singer had a 2 foot ram's horn in a ring on his belt, and drank beer from it throughout the show.  Also there were numerous fans at the show who brought cardboard axes and shields to brandish while the band played.  Here is the title track to their new album, Twilight of The Thunder God.

Alestorm (formerly Battleheart) are a Pirate Band.  They are from Scotland, and have a unique Folk/Power metal sound. Unfortunately they don't have any official videos for their work. Strangely, we have Disney to thank for some decent mashups.  Here is one for Alestorm's "Wenches & Mead" from their album Captain Morgan's Revenge.

Moving even further beyond bands with a set theme are bands that make whole theme's for themselves.  These bands will create a whole storyline for their bands existence, and create characters for each of the band members.

GWAR has been doing this for years. They have created a whole mythos for their band, and have added and removed characters as the band has added and removed members.  They are known for elaborate costumes and stage acts which are absurdly gross. Made famous by the show Beavis and Butthead. "Immortal Corrupter" sums up their gig fairly well

Today, no band takes this theme thing further than Lordi.  They claim to have developed their idea independantly of GWAR, which I find hard to believe.  However, they are more refined than GWAR.  While their image and songwriting is rather bombastic, they do know how to play their instruments, the audio mastering is better, and they are rather fun.  Strangely they came to popularity after winning Eurovision in 2006 as Finland's official entry to the contest (Eurovision is a contest, kind of a mix between American Idol and America's got Talent).  Once agin proving that, as Hard a rocker you may be, you will never be as extreme as Scandinavia.  2 Videos for Lordi; first the video for "Devil is a Loser", and second their encore after winning Eurovision.

Recently downloaded a movie called "Dark Floors".

Quite disappointing. Not that scary. Well, the reason I downloaded it is because it's made by a hard rock band, called Lordi. I like the band, so I thought I should just downloaded je ah.

Yup, that's the band. Not really a metal band. More hard rock i guess...

Reminds me of a band I used to like, and still listening to. SLIPKNOT!!

E un horror cu accente psihologice, care exploateaza temerile cele mai ascunse ale omului....mai precis: Ingrijorat pentru sanatatea fiicei lui autiste, tatal ei obtine o mutare din spital cu forta,singura lui optiune. Un lift se prabuseste, incidentul fiind doar inceputul unui cosmar cumplit. Odata cu deschiderea usilor spitalul pare pustiu. Hi, I feel really fine! The band has been really busy after winning the Finland’s Eurovision song contest. We also started out first club tour here in Finland so there’s no much freetime at the moment, which is nice :)

Lets check this exciting news first; “Hard Rock Hallelujah” will be the Finland’s song on the Eurovision 2006.Thats is an interesting new indeed,how came?

Well, our record company, SonyBMG, suggested to participate in Eurovision song contest and after we were thinking of it a few days, we were that “hey, what not!”. In the beginning it was more like a promotion thing for us and it still is. But of course, we gonna destroy Athens, that’s for sure! You know, Lordi is not an ordinary band and this kind of things, like taking part in Eurovision, is exactly what we do. There’s no limits for us.

How the audience in Finland react to “Hard Rock Hallelujah” so far?Do all people agree that it can be a song that can represent Finland in Eurovision or have some opposite views occured already?

Hahaa, in Finland we have a really love-hate –thing going on right now! :) After the contest there was a real storm around us, people were for and against. We won the contest by far, there’s no question about that, but afterwards all the whimpers started to blame us satanistics and something like ‘now Finland’s celebrity is gone if we really gonna represent Finland in Eurovision!’ Can you believe it!?! And what celebrity? :) Well, any publicity is good publicity, as we know, so we are just happy of all this free promotion we are gettin’ right now.

Maybe related with the previous question,do you hear any negative comments about your apperance?I mean,will Lordi play with their usual make up in the Eurovision or do you have something more exclusive for this night?

Yea yea,  Lordi will always perform in make-up. Our show is spiced with the pyrotechnics so there might be some limits for it in Athens, but negotiations is already in progress so let’s see what we can do. Anyway, we are not gonna do any compromises so I promise to you that we gonna be the artist you remember.

Do you think that your success in Eurovision can affect the album sales in negative or positive ways?

In positive way, definitely. As I said, all this promotion and feedback, was it good or bad, is only a positive thing for us.

You are generally put into the same shelf with Twisted Sister and the Kiss.Do you agree?Have these bands inspred you at some point?

Oh yeah! We are all huge KISS fans, and also 80’s heavy metal is really close to our hearts. Twisted Sister is one of the craziest band in a world! I love those dudes! It was dream come true when Bruce Kulick (ex-KISS) and Jay Jay French and Dee Snider (TS) took part in our new album. Imagine, I was a little kid and there was a poster of Kulick on my wall, and now I play guitar on the same track with him, it is something. .unbelievable..

Can you tell us some more about your lyrics, which form some kind of concept...

Mr.Lordi makes all the lyrics, so I guess you should try to dive in to his mind :) Main point is that we don’t preach or teach or take up a stand for anything. Each song is a little story and there’s no any opinions of  “the world situation” or so.. Ideas behind the lyrics comes mostly from the horror movies and rock ‘n roll.

What other bands do you listen to in your spare time?Are you into death/thrash/black metal at the same time?

I listen a lot of different kind of music.. Of course, Skid Row, G ‘n R, Mötley, Aerosmith. Zeppelin etc. are my favorites. I’ve been a huge Anthrax fan all of my life and right now I’m really waiting fo their visit in Finland! I’m also a really into Blues, and from that field I listen also a lot of other artist than Clapton :) So, I’m not so much into black metal or so..

Lordi’s make up is for sure very extraordinary and cool,whose work is it?Do you have special make-up team?You must be spending hours in the make-up room before the gigs eheh..

All the costumes is made by Mr.Lordi himself. He is an artistic genius with a big A! During the tours we have a one person with us who takes care of our costumes if there’s anything that is need to be fix or sew or paint or so..and believe me, costumes are under the needle all the time :) Yea, we spend a few hours before the show just to put the make up on.

What about films or books, Tv series,anything you recently read or saw that impressed you?And one more thing,Chose : Simpsons VS South Park?I go for Simpsons,that is!

I’m following right now the 24. Actually, it is the only interesting TV series going on right now in Finland. I just can’t wait the new episodes from the Sopranos! All the mafia related things are really fascinating. Well, actually, most of the HBO series are worth of watching. Like OZ, my all-time favorite! I also read a lot...right now I’m reading the “Sinuhe The Egyptian”, it is a classic. About films..well, I guess I haven’t seen a really astonishing film for awhile..I love the horror films! Next film I’m gonna watch is “The Amityville Horror” and I wait a quite lot of it ‘cause Mr.Lordi suggested it to me :)  I also love the TV series “Friends”! It is a really good way to charge your batteries, a lot of fun! Hmm..Simpsons VS South Park..I have to say The Simpsons. Kita and Mr.Lordi are huge Simpsons fans and I guess “I have seen” all the episodes ‘cause they are talking about those all the time :)

Do you play any video or computer games?

Yea yea! I love hockey, and for that reason I play a lot of NHL. I also love the Rockstargames’ GTA category! I have to mention here, that last year I got an invitation to play guitar on a PC action game called “Shadowgrounds”, it was a real fun. Another weird one on the way;Are you married? And what kind of effects could marriage have on the creativity of the artist? Have you ever thought of this? It sure one may be more creative when he is alone,yet what about a man married with children?

Yea, that’s a weird one! :) No, I’m not married. I understand your question completely...It’s been seen so many times that wifes kills your creativity [lol] but also other way around. I guess it depends a lot of relationship..I mean, if you got a lot of support from home it might be a really creative thing, but once again, if you don’t, then it might be really hard to be concentrated on music. This is not the easiest career if you think about the relationships. I don’t have any childrens..but of course I have thought of it and what kind of effects it could have..so I have chosen rock ‘n roll :) I guess that if I would have a wife and children it would be a hard to avoid some conflicts. But basicly, it is only about the lack of time.

A last weird question, a question on a personal note. Do you have any pets?If yes,which breed you like most?(if it is a dog,that is)

Yes, I have a dog, almost 12 years old boxer, called Stanley :) The world’s charming one! He is everything to me.

Non potevamo non cominciare da qui, da uno dei fenomeni del 2007-08, vale a dire i finlandesi Nigthwish. Band decisamente heavy metal che ultimamente mescola molto anche suoni rock. "Amaranth", che accompagna l'album "Dark passion play" è decisamente energetica. La passione per il rock duro lassù è sbocciata dopo la clamorosa vittoria nel 2006 all'Eurofestival, tempio del pop, dei metallari travestiti da mostri Lordi, con "Hard rock Hallelujah", bellissima preghiera rock. Sullo stesso filone le presenze del 2007 (Hanna con "Leave me alone") e 2008 (Terasbetoni con "Missa Miehet Ratsastaaa").

Finlandia terra anche di grandissime eccellenze. Per esempio gli Apocalyptica, da oltre 15 anni sulle scene, che mescolano l'hard rock ai violini e ai violoncelli. Ascoltate "Path". Oppure i Sonata Arctica, di cui vi propongo "Paid in full". O questa dolcissima "Summer wine" cantata dal frontman degli Him, Ville Valo con l'attrice tedesca Natalia Avelon, straordinaria colonna sonora del film "Das Wilde Leben".

Se invece preferite altri suoni., c'è vasta scelta. Attualmente il capofila di vendite è il rapper Cheek con Llekeissä, mentre chi ama il pop può buttarsi sulla 18enne Anna Abreu, di genitori portghesi e vincitirce di Popo Idol 2008, che canta in tre lingue. Questa è "Ivory Tower" oppure sul vinvotire dell'anno prima, Ari Koivunen, il cui album è andato a ruba. Qui c'è Hear My call.

Suoni decisamente più pop in Norvegia. Sempre dai talent viene Maria Haukas Storeng che con "Hold on be strong" ha rappresentato il Paese all'Eurofestival ma alle selezioni c'era di meglio. Per esempio "Corn fed" delle Tinkerbells.

I fenomeni del momento però sono tre: anzitutto i Madcon, (sono norvegesi bechè di colore...) la cui "Beggin" è anche sulla comiplation del Festivalbar. Poi il 16enne Erlend Bratland, vincitore del talent locale, il cui primo album "Lost" è schizzato subito in vetta. Voce impressionante, ascoltate appunto "Lost". Poi Kurt Nielsen, vincitore di un World Idol. "Rise to the occasion", dall'omonimo album è bellissima. Una citazione però merita anche la bellissima e bravissima Maria Arrendondo con la dolcissima "Brief and beautiful".

In Svezia è il trionfo del pop, anche se qualcuno che cerca di fare l'alternativo c'è. Come i bravissimi ed antipaticissimi The Ark, clamoroso flop ad Eurofestival 2007 con l'energetica "The worrying kind". Il mito di quelle parti si chiama Carola, che la rassegna la vinse nel 1991 a Roma e che nel 2006 tornò con "Invincible". Quest'anno c'era un 'altra già vincente (nel 1998), Charlotte Perrelli con la bella "Hero", ma le è andata malissimo.

Giovani promesse dai talent. Una è Marie Picasso, che ha venduto tantissimo con "This moment", un altra è Amanda Jenssen, con la sua voce 'rn'b e la bella "Do you love me". Ma si fa  apprezzare anche la boyband EMD: questa è "A state of mind". Le ragazze invece hanno eletto il 22 enne Måns Zelmerlöw "uomo più sexy di Svezia": musicalmente parlando, il suo album "Maniac" è andato bene, anche grazie al singolo "Cara mia".

I maschietti apprezzeranno invece l'ex voce dei Lambretta Linda Sundblad, qui con "Oh father". Chiusura in chiave dance, con uno dei gruppi migliori del panorama europeo, vale a dire i September: l'anno scorso spopolò "Can't get over", sotto, invece il nuovissimo "Cry for you".

These particular ones are embedded in a handmade Russian matryoshka doll. The lady featured in the article makes them herself and apparently even the likes of Wayne Coyne and Gnarls Barkley are customers.

En esta ocasión les voy a hablar de uno de los personajes mas carismáticos que hay dentro del metal, la banda conocida por muchos como Los Monstruos de Finlandia, banda que puso a ese país en el mapa dentro del certamen Eurovisión, señores, con ustedes Lordi.

Lordi es un grupo de rock finlandés que nacio gracias a un sueño que tubo el señor Tomi Putaansuu, mejor conocido como Mr. Lordi, en el se veia tocando junto con un esqueleto en el escenario, así es como nació el concepto de Lordi, un grupo influenciado fuertemente por Kiss que hace gala de elementos teatrales en cada una de sus presentaciones.

Lordi causo polémica dentro del certamen Eurovisión en el 2006 ya que no los querían dejar participar porque argumentaban que se trataba de un grupo de música satánica y no era material acorde para el publico al que Eurovisión llega, pero la banda se defendió alegando que un grupo que rinde culto al diablo no tendría canciones como Devil is a Looser, al final la banda gano y se les permitió participar y vaya que pegaron con tubo ya que ganaron con una impresionante puntuación de 292 puntos, rompiendo record y haciendo que por primera vez una banda de Finlandia ganara un premio Eurovisión.

Después de Eurovisión Lordi fue invitado a los Mtv Europe Music Awards como presentador de el premio al mejor grupo de Rock y finalizo esa premiación tocando en vivo Hard Rock Hallelujah, en el 2007 fue invitado a participar e el Ozzfest y poco tiempo después toco junto con Twin Method y Type O Negative en un concierto de Halloween
