For comedy purposes I wanted to click on the ad, but then I thought I might end up in jail. I imagined the prison call to my Dad,

Dad:

Oh Jesus you are not a lesbian are you? Couldn’t you find a girlfriend here? You’re pretty….

Thanks Dad, but trust me I like guys, probably a bit too much….not girls…I was just looking at the site for my blog….do you think they will let me blog from jail? There is some pretty good material in the slammer.

Dad:

I don’t condone Asia bride websites but they do fascinate me. It reminds me of the Little Britain sketch, Dudley and his She man Thai Bride, Ting Tong.

I had a pretty sedate weekend. I have been working from home the past week, logging tapes for a TV show I have been working on. It’s cool but I have found myself talking aloud to Dr Phil, spending too much time on the facebook and coming up with wily business schemes. Anyone got any ideas?

I went to a fancy dress party on Saturday night. I went as a magpie. The Princess was a bunny.  We heard everyone was going as cats. I thought a magpie was the opposite of a cat.

I made some elaborate wings and Justin did my hair. We went to another party afterwards. People looked at us funny. Didn’t bother me.

Actually I wasn’t in a hella party mood. I got stuck in this conversation with a girl who kept saying ‘my boyfriend’ every 2 seconds.  Like the Seinfeld episode were Elaine gets stuck with the woman who keeps saying “my fiancé.”

Woman:  I wonder what happened to my fiancé.  I know he's here somewhere.
Ellen?  Have you seen my fiancé?
Ellen:  He's upstairs.
Woman:  Are you going upstairs?  Tell my fiancé I'm looking for him.  I have
lost my fiancé, the poor baby.
Elaine:  Maybe the dingo ate your baby.
Woman:  What?
Elaine:  The dingo ate your baby!

Even when I was engaged I struggled to say fiancé. I preferred ‘guy I may or may not marry but I currently have a ring so chances are good’ (little did I know!)

The ‘my boyfriend’ girl went on and on about how there were no eligible guys at the party and what a sad state of affairs it would be to be single in ‘this climate’.

‘In this climate’?

As Gordon Ramsey would say, fuck me, what the buggery does that mean? Anyone have any ideas?

Maybe global warming is decreasing the rate of eligible men? Or maybe they are all just gay (Justin’s happy theory…not everyone is a homo Jus, they just can’t be).  

Also please note the fantastic Seinfeld original TV Guides that Justin got for me for my birthday (legend). They are from the final episode. Kudos to him for finding something Seinfeld related that I don’t already have!

The mental patient mannequin from the last blog was so popular I thought I would show you her friend, Mental patient 80s boyfriend, who stands next to her. He wears just as much make up, check out his cheek bones, and is also wearing a robe and a dodgy 80’s rocker bi sexual hairstyle.

Ah, let's address the question of Wilhelmina.    A few of you will remember Wilhelmina, yes?    I had posted about her, oh back in February?   And then zipped off to Costa Rica, got obsessed with my tan, flew to AZ, Palm Springs, involved with a wedding, and of course, my favorite time filler:  blogging, and.   well...   Wilhelmina has ended up like this:

So, sndra of no link, I can't show you 'how it turned out'.   I have only the heart I glued on and maybe, not sure the pencil marks will show up in the photo, but I drew on her to get an idea of how to map out my idea.    I have collected a few more items that are concave and convex to attempt a 'fit' with her curves, and that's about it.   Guess this calls me a procrastinator.   Have I ever told you about the Christmas stockings I was cross-stitching for me and Hub?   I got one done a couple of years ago.   The other is still only a half way stitched design and I started these is 1990.     I have dresses cut with their patterns still pinned waiting for me to just sew up that were begun in 1993.    Which means that the cross-stitched stuff has been stored in SEVEN houses, and the sewing project has been following through my last FOUR houses.   Did you all know that I move a lot?    Yep, I am living in my 7th house.   in under 20 years.    It was a much worse average before the last 3 houses but the 6th house was lived in only 4 months so maybe not?   whatever.

Second, on my artichoke post, JavaQueen mentions that she saw artichokes in the store and wondered how to cook.    Honestly, my first thought is RUN TO GOOGLE and look it up?!     What I really did was actually open up the WordPress search and entered How to Cook Artichoke and found some good resources.    Whenever anyone asks me "How Did you Know...", I can usually always answer, "I GOOGLED IT!"    Ok, somebody tell me what you call a word that has been watered down to mean the universal non-specific noun/verb and not the brand?  ie, Xerox, kleenex, etc?   'Google' is becoming such a word, don't ya agree?   (crap, they are going to come look for me now and demand a nickel.)

and Lastly and or Thirdly, my rant about commenting in the first half of the artichoke Wednesday post, was in no way to admonish any of YOU to leave me a comment (or I won't visit you.?!  ha)   That is SO not the case!    I was only expressing a slight dissatisfaction with a particular activity on my other blog that is supposed to inspire community (duh, comment-leaving) where I felt I did MY  duty to the others and got no love in return.   It would be similar to my Photo Fridays if I always posted, commented on the other participants' photos and NONE - ie, NO ONE, in the 6-7 weeks of 'sharing' - EVER came by to say hi.     And I can only assume it's due to the variety and thus 'chore' of commenting on so many types of blog platforms.     (oh, PFers!  I love our sense of community but I know it's not always possible to visit everyone each and every week, especially when we start getting hundreds involved, right?   good.   AND, btw, the theme tomorrow, FRIDAY the 13th, is UNLUCKY.)

Please, comment when you want to, don't when you don't.   Really, it's OK.   I'm a big girl and I will get over it, and move on.    LOVE YA!    

OH, you didn't think I was done, did you?!    I just HAVE TO SHARE THIS!   I planted zucchini!    Last FRIDAY!  and now yesterday they are not just babies, they are toddlers!!

  Yes, I know, I KNOW I planted too many.  I'll thin the grouping down to one eventually, which is sad, maybe I'll transport some instead.

I had a lot of fun pinning it all together. The bottom looks a bit costume-ish so I might make it a bubble dress...I need to make my new fashion wall soon so I can scrap this and start over! Consider this dress the first of a series! :)

I really like mannequins - I find them to be strange and generally creepy. In this image I really like the way the interior gets confused with the reflected exterior. The clouds in the upper corner merge into the curtain almost too perfectly.

Resusci Anne

Resusci Anne, also known as Rescue Anne or CPR Annie, is a training mannequin used for teaching Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) to both emergency workers and members of the general public. Resusci Anne was developed by Norwegian toy maker Åsmund Laerdal, based on the research of Peter Safar and James Elam, and was first introduced in 1960. The mannequin is designed to accurately simulate the human respiratory system and external body landmarks in order to facilitate training.

I've actually seen one of these first hand, it breathes, talks and can be injected with needles and has the ability to name the drug and the dosage. It's actually pretty weird at first, the guy who was showing the model to me attempted to put the model in cardiac arrest but failed to do so because the batteries ran low...which caused much disappointment on my part and frustration on his.

If you remember, I spent 6 hours designing the perfect original illusion to turn mannequins into models. Well, the plans were sent up to K.L. for fabrication but unfortunately there was a last minute change of plans by the show producer. (The hair show is essentially a fashion show). So, we had 2 hours to redesign an act to meet the same objectives. Well, we did but it also required us to ship up a set of our own props up to K.L. the day before the event. To cut a long story short, the props arrived on the afternoon of the event, we set up the props, rehearsed with local dancers and proceeded to pull off the show in the evening. Ning fronted the show, I was her 'assistant' or as the Flying Dutchman likes to call me now "roadie" to Ning :-) (That's from another event, not this one. BUT, he who gets paid more does not worry about titles....)

The client was thrilled with the act and is now exploring the possibility of using Ning for a show in Singapore - so that's the best testimony! At the after party, Ning & I... o.k. mainly Ning (although someone did ask me to hold their drink while they took a photo wth Ning) were stopped by numerous people for compliments and photos. I think she has developed a small following in K.L. after this show!

For those who might be interested, the staging for the show was a traditional runway style concept. It was beautifully set-up in an unused floor of a new high-end shopping mall.

In the illusion act, Ning transformed mannequin parts into a model and later produced a model out of thin-air in a see-through crystal box. Check out some photos below:

Remember when you were in college and you had a morning class, and you were up all night studying (or more likely partying) and you could barely manage to drag yourself out of bed, let alone get dressed?  So you just threw on a sweatshirt and some shoes and went to class in your PJ pants?  Well, I never did that, because no matter how little I slept I always valued looking good over sleeping more, but I knew lots of people that did and I used to tease them for it.  If you WERE such a person, then you can celebrate.  Above to the left is a more 'grown up', high end kind of pajama, made just for wearing in public!

The dress to the right in the same fabric is rather lovely however.  It reminds me of the 1940's.
