I partecipanti potevano servirsi come "aiutino" solo di giornali pornografici o altri gioccattoli erotici, assolutamente vietato toccarsi. Più di dieci ore dedicate al sesso "fai da te", in cui al massimo si poteva trarre ispirazione dai compagni ma assolutamente senza avere nessun tipo di contatto diretto. Rigorosamente proibiti anche alcool, fumo e droghe; distribuiti gratuitamente te, caffè e bevande.

L'iniziativa, organizzata dalla sessuologa locale Pia Struck, è ispirata ad una kermesse analoga nata negli Stati Uniti, "Masturbate-a-Thon", che si tiene tutti gli anni dal 1998. La "Masturbate-a-Thon" è un'idea di due sessuologi: Dr. Carol Queen e il Dr. Robert Lawrence pensata per incoraggiare la gente all’autoerotismo come strategia per il sesso sicuro, parlare di masturbazione e abbattere i taboo che ancora circondano l’argomento, facendolo in un posto pubblico e “venendo” in un posto pubblico!

Alla manifestazione in Danimarca hanno partecipato fra gli altri, gli attivisti di "Fuck for Forest", volontari che vendono i video con i loro rapporti sessuali per finanziare la salvaguardia delle foreste.
Al termine, come ogni gara che si rispetti, si e' tenuta la premiazione dei migliori praticanti dell'autoerotismo.

Ladies and Gentlemen, this weekend marks the eighth anniversary of the greatest celebration of American freedom this side of the Country Music Awards.  A lot of people think that Memorial Day or Independence Day is the true celebration of freedom, but these people are childish, they’re the type of people who think sugar cubes are a good dessert.  No, no; in order to celebrate our freedom, we need to celebrate something less free people aren’t allowed to, not celebrate freedom itself.

Sunday, in San Francisco, at 3 PM, at the Sex & Culture Center, a bunch of people are going to be masturbating together all day.  It’s the eighth annual Masturbate-a-thon!

When I heard about the Masturbate-a-thon last year, it was my all-consuming goal to attend.  As has been well documented, I am a fan of masturbating.  Masturbating is so great because the stakes are so low.  It’s like how if you buy a hamburger at McDonalds, and it’s not that great, who gives a shit, it was only 89 cents.  On the other hand if you had to put all that effort into getting a gourmet restaurant hamburger, paying six times as much, taking the time to talk to the waitress, assuring her that she’s really good at refilling your water, and then the hamburger is shitty, that’s a real disappointment.  I think that metaphor got away from me somewhere, but you understand the bottom line.

Anyway, the Masturbate-a-thon is taking off this weekend.  The event includes “featured masturbators,” this year it’s aged pornstar Nina Hartley, and this creepy dude named Edwin.  Nice nip rings, Ed.

As I understand, Nina is going to be attempting to break the female record for longest time masturbating, which is currently at six and a half hours, set by Norine Dworkin back in 2004.  That may seem like a long time, but consider this: the male record is eight and a half hours.  Eight and a half fucking hours!  I’m positive I could break that record (and I may have actually back in my Adderall binging days), but I don’t know if the Masturbate-a-thon allows performance enhancing drugs.  Do you have to keep a boner for eight and a half hours?  Isn’t four hours the threshold for a diagnosis of priapism?

The event is allegedly an event that is meant to empower people sexually.  Quite frankly, I think towards achieving this goal, they picked the perfect masturbating headliner.  Let’s take a look at some of Nina Hartley’s credits over her over 20 year career in porno: Leatherbound Dykes From Hell 20, Fatal Erection, Shorty Iz Fuckin’ Yo Mama, China Bitch, and of course, Adventures of the Fart Bitches.  Those are some of the most sexually, racially, and culturally enlightened titles in the history of the skin flick biz.

Even more uplifting than featuring the star of Anal Annie and the Magic Dildo, the Masturbate-a-thon features competitions, such as the aforementioned time trials.  There’s also a “most orgasms” competition and a “squirt/ejaculation distance” contest.

Now, it’s pretty easy to judge a male “most orgasms” contest, but I wonder how they can tell if the women are being entirely honest.  The male record is 6, but the female’s is 49.  I guess I believe a woman can have 49 orgasms is six hours, but again, it seems like a difficult thing to accurately record or verify. 

Tragically, there are no distance records on the books yet.  The ejaculation distance record is one of those things that is could be set by anyone.  It’s more luck than practice or skill.  Some days, it’s the bullet from the gun; other days, it’s the blood dribbling out of a paper cut.  It’s ejaculatory Russian roulette.

It is with a heavy heart that I concede that I will again not be attending the greatest jack event of the year.  Just know, my San Franciscan brothers and sisters in whacking off, that I am with you in spirit.  You’re goddamn lucky I’m not there to put your records to shame.

This year's Masturbate-a-thon takes place Sunday May 25, in sex positive San Francisco at the non-profit Center for Sex & Culture (world famous sex educator and author Nina Hartley is a co-host!) so um, mark your calendars ladies and gents. Yes, another day, another double posting from Lyrical. I could not let the first day of National Masturbation Month go by unannounced though. It's big news, yes? This month's activities include, oh yes, a Masturbate-a-thon in San Francisco (try leaving the sign up sheet for sponsors for that event in your break room at work!). I believe this is the 11th anniversary of National Masturbation Month (jesus, I never thought I would type the word "masturbate" or any of its variations so many times in one paragraph - let me keep going, maybe I can break some kind of record).

Oddly enough, National Masturbation Month begins as we wrap up National Orgasm Month, though I can't help but think they really could have combined the two and been totally okay. And honestly, has anyone been withholding, just to wait for May? Seriously?

In honor of self-love, I thought I would share with you my least favorite euphemism for masturbation - and honestly, it's not that I'm a prude, it's just that I think that some of these sayings are ridiculous, and should be left in the high school locker room in which they originated. My least favorite? "Rub one out". Hate it. So, Happy National Masturbation Month - and if you have a euphemism you hate (or one you love, hey, let's be fair), toss it in the comments.

A fundraiser commited to advancing sex education and safety, the 2008 Live Masturbate-a-Thon was started by Good Vibrations (one of my favorite toy stores), one of the fun events to raise awareness during their National Masturbation Month—another reason to love May.

Founded and directed by Dr. Carol Queen, the seventh annual Masturbate-a-thon will be held in San Francisco on Sunday, May 25th, 2008. That's a long way for most of us. But! Masturbate-a-thon är ett fantastiskt evenemang som har arrangerats regelbundet sedan starten 1995 i San Francisco, av The Center for Sex & Culture. Masturbate-a-thon är särskilda tillfällen då människor helt enkelt samlas under festliga former för att onanera tillsammans, en hel dag. Masturbate-a-thon har också hållits i England.

Masturbate-a-thon är förstås inte bara en kul sexhappening, det är också ett politiskt och filosofiskt evenemang, en hyllning till den privata sexualiteten – och med privat menar jag då inte det man vill gömma undan och stänga dörren om, utan det som helt och hållet rör den egna personen, den egna kroppen.

Och nu är det dags i Danmark. Orgasmterapeuten Pia Struck (som bl.a. håller orgasmkurser för både kvinnor och män) har tillsammans med en grupp sexaktivister i Danmark organiserat en Masturbate-a-thon i Köpenhamn. Det hela kommer att ske på lördag den 31 maj 2008, på swingerklubben SwingLand i Ishøj, och det kommer att pågå hela dagen. Enligt vad jag fått höra är det nu många som har anmält sig, så intresset finns uppenbarligen.

Det finns ett enormt värde i att avskaffa skammen kring den egna kroppen, och den egna sexualiteten. Det är helt absurt att vi har kollektivt har accepterat samhällets dom över oss som syndare, och som äckliga och snuskiga, bara för att vi tar i våra egna kön. För hundra år sedan stämplades onani som en sjukdom, en åkomma som var farlig och skadlig för alla och envar som föll för frestelsen att njuta av sin egen sexualitet.

Och det var inte bara "Händerna på täcket, Gud ser allt!" – unga människor fick utstå plågsamma och såväl fysiskt som psykiskt stigmatiserande terapier mot sitt onanerande. Det kunde vara olika varianter av kyskhetsbälten, bränning med glödgade järn på klitorisollon på flickor, och penisollon på pojkar, könsstympning och i värsta fall kastration.

Det amerikanska oskicket att kollektivt omskära gossar kommer från denna tid, då man på så sätt ville förhindra onani. Den komplett galne och starkt sexnegative hälsoprofeten Dr. Kellogg (ja, han som uppfann Corn Flakes) hävdade att omskärelsen på gossar helst skulle göras utan bedövning, för att på så sätt skapa trauma kring könet, och därmed hindra gossarna än mer effektivt från att ta till den hemska onanin.

Vi lever i en annan tid nu. Men onani betraktas alltjämt som något att skämmas för. Många skulle aldrig våga onanera ens så att ens partner ser. Det är fortfarande något som är "fult" och nedvärderande med onani, och detta påverkar oss känslomässigt och mentalt. Våra kroppar är inte helt erövrade av oss själva. Det finns fortfarande andra som gör anspråk på våra kroppar, på att bestämma över vad som är rätt och fel i förhållande till den egna kroppen.

Frågan är – vem äger dig? Vem bestämmer över din kropp, reglerar vad du får göra eller inte göra med din egen kropp? Det kan låta som en helt absurd fråga, för rent känslomässigt tror jag att de flesta reagerar utifrån att de naturligtvis själva bestämmer över sina egna kroppar. Men så enkelt är det inte. Ytterst sett har staten fortfarande högre bestämmanderätt över din kropp än du själv, i fler avseenden än du kanske tror. Och vi låter oss därtill bli ägda av våra partners (de allra flesta äktenskap är i praktiken ömsesidiga äganderättskontrakt), våra arbetsgivare, våra barn, våra släktingar och så vidare. De stunder då vi känner att vi faktiskt kan äga oss själva, disponera vår egen tid för oss själva, är ytterligt begränsade – och därtill, absurt nog, skambelagda. Det betraktas ofta som fult och egoistiskt att ta hand om sig själv – och därför gör många det aldrig, och förvandlas därmed till att vara slavar på heltid.

Att onanera är garanterat riskfritt, särskilt beträffande överförande av sjukdomar.
Onani är skönt, hälsosamt, lugnande och gratis. Det finns inga nackdelar med onani.
Onani är nyttigt och bra.
Onani tillsammans med andra kan vara oerhört sexigt och spännande, eggande och roligt, inspirerande och lärorikt.
Att se på när andra onanerar kan vara väldigt upphetsande, men också bara mysigt. Och framför allt - befriande.

Att onanera är en frigörelsehandling, en bekräftelse på att jag är min egen, att jag kan bryta mig ur slaveriet att ständigt vara ägd av andra. En onanistund kan vara den enda tiden då jag faktiskt helt och hållet fokuserar på min egen njutning, min egen glädje.
