Sokkal fontosabb a szereplők jelleme, a küzdelmeik, a vágyaik. A lassabb dallamokról nekem a Seirei no Moribito jutott eszembe^^

A história de Sword of the Stranger (Stranger: Mukou Hadan, Japão, 2007) acontece no período Senkoku.

“Sword of the Stranger”, I find, is the perfect anime equivalent of what you would call

"Sword of the Stranger", I find, is the perfect anime equivalent of what you would call a typical "blockbuster" action movie in Hollywood: not much substance, nothing particularly unique or creative, but can be fun to watch and has high production values. "Stranger" is a movie about your random vagabond ronin who gets caught up in a devious plot of an emperor to attain the Elixir of Life, which is apparently doable by sacrificing some kid with pure blood or something. Fact of the matter is, the plot doesn't matter in the slightest and is just an excuse for some good old fashioned, samurai sword slashin' action. As it should, or rather ends up, to be in every decent blockbuster flick. You don't watch Michael Bay (Transformers, Bad Boys) movies for their stories, you watch them for their over-the-top, insane action sequences. The problem is, while what action there is in "Stranger" is high quality and well-done, it winds up to be a meager portion of the film.

A majority of "Stranger" is comprised of the ronin's interaction with the bratty, but likeable child. They have a good amount of on-screen chemistry, but it's nothing special, nothing that will really captivate your heart as they seem to be desperately trying for. The characters' themselves are decent, albeit standard anime arch-types. The hero has an interesting, cliche mysterious background and it's unfortunate that they couldn't just focus on that instead of using it as an additional spice so to speak.

The main issue with the film lies in the fact that nothing really happens during the entire 90-minute span of the story besides that. Aside from the catalyst to begin the story and the climax to end it, everything else in-between is blatantly filler. And while most blockbusters use that exact formula, a good one will make the filler seem of some consequence, importance, or interest. What this movie was missing was the "rollercoaster ride" that all blockbusters have; it was missing that momentum of action sequences, which there was a surprising lack of. I wanted to see a movie full of high quality, sword-swinging battles, but was given tiny teasers of quality fights that never panned out and left me wanting more. Instead, the movie chose to take it's sweet time following the mundane antics of brat and ronin and the typical "Here's what the bad guy is doing" sequences cut in between. As usual, you never care about any of the bad guys (which comprise of 90% of cast) aside from maybe one of them. They're just there to fill the world and drive plot points.

I suppose I'm a little more miffed than need be because of how much potential this movie had. The opening action sequence drew me in immediately and excited me. However, in the end, it betrayed me because it set a tone and energy for the film that just wasn't true. It was pretending to be a big adventure with a grand storyline but the meat of the film was simply everyday, relaxing meandering between a child and a hardened soldier. Actually, I would of liked the film better if it had just been that instead of being this wish-washy direction that covets it. The ending climax plays out as you'd expect but by that time I was already like, "Oh, finally..." I will say that I was satisfied with their choice in epilogue. If you read between the lines, there are two different endings that are apparent and they let you choose which one you think will happen.

The bits and pieces of goodness that they tease you with are enough to make "Sword of the Stranger" a decent, blockbuster anime movie; the action can be entertainingly awesome but there's not enough of it and the main protagonists can be amusing and sweet at times but slow down film. So other than that, there's not much else to look at.

Rating: C+

Miről is szól?

Mindenképpen megérte, ajánlom is másoknak, akár többszöri megnézésre is. Ja és 8/10. (Úgy látszik pontokkal eléggé bőkezűen bánok mostanság.)

Sword of The Stranger is an animated feature film produced by Bones studio, the most awesome anime studio. Producers of Darker Than Black, Eureka Seven, Wolf's Rain and Full Metal Alchemist...and many more. So why not watch Sword of the Stranger.

Sword of the Stranger follows the story of a nameless foreigner swordsman, called 名無し(Nanashi-literally no name.) Meeting a boy called Kotarou and escorting him back to his village was not the only thing Nanashi was originally hired for. Ming Dynasty people are after the boy for his blood to make an immortality drug. Among the people after the boy is the protagonist Rarou, a skilled golden haired foreigner swordsman.

Anyway enough of the dodgy synopsis. I hope you understand what I summarised without spoiling anything. My thoughts on the movie. The opening scene was simply amazing. The music, the mood created by the rain, the animation, contributed to the success of the opening scene. The fighting in the first scene was just the beginning of what was on offer. Bloody at first, but when you see the other scenes, you'll say massacre! So much detail is put into the fight scenes, as expected of Bones. The story line is typical but most people like it anyway. I don't know if its me or the mandarin used in the movie was pretty dodgy. It just sounds really weird to me, even though I'm not mando.

It's up to you guys to watch. I recommend watching it. It's a good movie, better than the Naruto movies by far. Its Bones Studio so =] you should watch it

I just finished watching (Sword of the Stranger), which I must say, was quite well made, both in terms of animation quality, and story. The characters were surprisingly well developed, but not so much that it becomes excessive and boring. Sword of the Stranger was definitely a refreshing experience, especially after the recent barrage of crappy bishoujo guys, or stupid fanservice animes. Sword of the Stranger let the fighting do the talking (thankfully not the other way around). I never really got why people in anime felt it necessary to name their moves before they did them. Anyway, the movie can be found here, and the soundtrack here.

Just denna känsla dök faktiskt upp i mig, ganska många gånger under filmen Sword of the Stranger.

deserve a post. a very good fighting movie. with Nagase Tomoya seiyuing for Nanashi (main actor) and Chinen as Kotarou. Quoting Anime News Network,

Hunted by the the Mings from China, young Kotaro and his dog meet a nameless samurai ("Nanashi") who is constantly being haunted by dreams of the past which lead him to seal his sword. Among the Mings is a fiercesome Western fighter named Rarou, who desires only to find a worthy opponent. When both groups clash with a Sengoku-era feudal lord, a proud general, and monks torn between faith and survival, the reason behind the Mings' pursuit tests the bond between Kotaro and Nanashi.

I am seriously impress. I know i love anime but it is hard to find a good anime movie close to real life. now i'm wishing they'll make it into live action. ha ha ha. anyway, i haven't found any download link yet, but if u guys interested, just google to any streaming site. i'm sure u'll find it. i knew veoh have it. he he he. go watch. a very good movie. well, mayb just typical story, a samurai rescued a helpless boy but the fighting scenes and sound effect are good. it's worth watching. at least for me ^^

Summary

The story is set in Japan.
A boy named Kotaro, accompanied by his dog, is being chased and hunted down by the Chinese soldiers (The Mings) and along the way he meets a samurai named Nanashi (means nameless).
Nanashi is a mysterious samurai that is constantly being haunted by dreams of the past which prevents him from drawing his sword.
After a series of events, Nanashi ends up accompanying Kotaro on his journey.
Among the Mings is a westerner named Raou.
Raou's purpose for fighting is unlike the reasons behind the actions of the Chinese – his main purpose is to fight against the strong and he thrives on that fact.
He has been nicknamed a monster due to him being well known for his superior sword fighting skills.

Impressions

Alright, I know that that was not a good summary.

Basically this anime contains:

- Action
- Good Animation
- A nice storyline
- Blood
- Some sort of warm and fuzzy feeling (where you go, awwwww, that is nice)
- And it is interesting
- It is done by Bones Studio

----

While the plot may not be the most original ever, and I agree with those that say that this might seem to give you the vibe of another-one-of-those-kenshin-wannabe, I actually liked it.

It might be weird for me to say that it is a simple storyline, but I felt that the main point of this anime was pretty simple. To provide entertainment.

There is no deeper meaning or a huge moral to the story.

Actually, this anime is a very realistic animation with nothing too out of the ordinary or unbelievable happening.

While the plot could have easily walked down the road of imparting great "hidden messages" in its dialogue, it avoided that cliche path and I am pretty thankful for that.

The animation is nice and exciting, might be pretty bloody at times, but hey, that is what happens when you are fighting with a sword. None of those bloodless death things.

The Chinese's ulterior motive(to obtain immortality) is also another one of those interesting things that make you think, but at the same time that is not the main focus of the plot.

The story might be filled with fighting but it is not filled with high speed action fighting scenes that will make you go WOW at every super move made. There are those fight-scenes, but many of them is pretty much simple sword fighting amongst the soldiers.

And when they are not fighting, they focus on the storyline and the progression of the storyline.
I know that it is a movie so they do not waste time with useless information (but some movies do).
There is nothing unimportant in this anime.

Basically, I enjoyed every moment of it.

Perhaps the most disappointing part was that I had expected a complex storyline and a complex past behind the main character. His past is pretty simple and understandable. But like I had said, it is a relatively realistic anime movie.

The only funny part of this anime would be the Chinese spoken in it! LOL, god, it was so funny!
When they spoke one or 2 lines it was fine, I thought it was a foreign language.
But when they had a conversation in Chinese, boy was that mistake sticking out like a sore thumb.
They sounded like aliens. LOL. I am NOT joking! (it was okay for most of the part, tolerable, but the worst was when Kotaro and Raou had the conversation as they were ascending the stairs towards the top where the sacrifice ceremony was held)

- It might be a bit serious of some peoples taste, if not, it might be a bit too 'real'(?)/bloody for some people?
The blood is really not that bad (not like in Gantz).

- If the story does not appeal to you, you might want to watch it for the action. Plus it is animated by Bones, so yup!

An afterthought that you might take away with you from the anime might be to question the idea of fighting and killing. It seems that though this is set in the past where wars occurred on a regular basis, the idea of fighting has yet to change and even now it is happening. It has never stopped and many of us live our lives without even knowing about what is going on.
I mean you are not going to get a great deal of information out of this movie, but it made me just wonder about the way people die.

-ra out

Nanashi kommt ganz schön ins schwitzen

Vom Studio Bones stammt der in Japan jetzt auf DVD erhältliche Samurai-Kinofilm Sword of the Stranger.
