Being the routinely creature that I am, one would think that I would get really stressed about this kind of thing, and dwell on it for a long time. But, I didn't! :) I'm surprised myself. I only spent about an hour writing all the details down and researching the traffic laws. After that, I went on with my day as I had intended. I'm working on a small GUI application for my team and I've been really into it. So, thanks to my super enjoyable work today, I was able to forget about the traffic ticket.

Tonight I wasn't sure if Joseph was going to call me to hang out. I doubted it though, since he didn't mention it. Kanako and I had a cooked dinner and wine and watched some tv. I'm cooking to save money now! The economy isn't pretty, and I need to save some more money for Japan, so... COOKING. :) Tonight's dinner plus tomorrow's lunch costed $3.19. It was cheap because the ingredients were cheap: tofu, sweet bell peppers, green onions, and mushrooms. I just threw them all in a pan and stir-fried the heck out of them. :) I threw some soy sauce on and it tasted good and looked good too (colors: green, brown, tofu-beige ;P, orange, and red). After dinner, we decided to watch a move and I suggested a Korean movie called "My Sassy Girl". My co-worker (and ultimate frisbee organizer! ^_^) lent it to me and I really liked it. Kanako liked it too.

Overall, I had a great day despite the bad start.

I typed in the url www.jetlite.com . I couldn’t find the link to reschedule or cancel. I was like stunned. I called up my friend. At first he thought I had made a mistake, “Come ‘on, how could there be no rescheduling or cancellation link. It would be there only. Check again”. I spent another 15-20 minutes going through each and every link on the webpage, but to no avail.

Not knowing what to do, I dialed up the help line number given on the website. After initial IVR reply, I was routed to the operator (after a substantial waiting, I must add). My worst fears came true when the lady replied, “No sir, you can’t reschedule or cancel the flight online. It can only be done telephonically”. Okay, the crude oil prices are all time high and aviation industry is reeling under heavy loss, but is this the way to avenge it?

Cancellation charges were 500 bucks. I asked them to cancel my ticket. They have informed me that my account would be credited in about 15 days. However when I booked again, the money was debited instantaneously.

Les cinémas Star, à Port-Louis et Curepipe, prennent le train de la hausse des prix. Le montant du ticket pour ces salles passe de Rs 150 à Rs 175.

Eric Koenig, directeur des cinémas Star, attribue cette augmentation à la hausse des tarifs de l'électricité, celle du coût de la main-d'œuvre et enfin celle des droits sur les films. Il qualifie cette hausse de réponse à  une « réalité économique ». Pour lui, il est clair que continuer à offrir ses services à un moindre coût le fait courir à sa perte. Le directeur des cinémas Stars explique toutefois que son but n'est pas de faire fuir ses clients, mais au contraire de leur offrir des avantages, tels que la carte de fidélité. Cette option permet l'achat de 10 cartes valables sur trois mois, pour un prix inférieur à celui proposé à la porte.

Un autre argument avancé par Eric Koenig est la présence d’une certaine concurrence déloyale sur le marché. A cet effet, il pointe du doigt les marchands de DVD piratés. Avec des tickets à Rs 175 et des DVD vendus à Rs 50 ou moins, les clients ne sont pas nombreux devant les salles de cinéma. Surtout si les DVD arrivent sur le marché avant les sorties en salle.

Eshan Chady, gérant des cinémas Novelty, Cinecity et Ritz affirme, de son coté, que ce marché illégal fait énormément de torts aux cinémas. A tel point que lui non plus n'arrive plus à imaginer un avenir dans ce secteur d'activité. « Je ne vois pas d'avenir pour nous », affirme-t-il. Pour lui, une hausse de Rs 25 n'est pas suffisante pour arriver à renflouer les caisses.

Southwest Airlines announced on Wednesday that it will launch new service between Chicago Midway and Minneapolis St. Paul beginning in March. Southwest is moving into the Minneapolis St. Paul market right at the time that Northwest and Delta are expected to merge. This merger is expected to reduce service for Northwest at Minneapolis.  

Southwest is a great carrier and then know what they are doing. They would not launch service into a new market if they didn't think they could make a profit. The Minneapolis market needs a good low cost carrier as fares to that city have been very high and with the entry of Southwest, it will bring fares down in the market.

Southwest plans to release more details about the Minneapolis service in the coming months.

I'm guessing though, any policy is foreign to her.

Pocket is Otsuka's 16th overall single, and the first in the post-LOVE PiECE era. The title track was the CM song for music.jp during the month of November. It reached #5 on the charts, and stayed on the charts for a total of eleven weeks. It was released on the 7th of November, 2007.

 Pocket opens with the soft sound of a piano playing alongisde some strings. It creates a very calming atmosphere, and Otsuka's vocals fit this style when they come in. Her voice sounds a bit different compared to the LOVE PiECE album, but I can't really tell how. Maybe it's just me. Either way, it fits the song well, and compliments the arrangement perfectly. After the first chorus, strings are added into the mix as well, and the guitar takes a more prominent role in the song. While I did enjoy the calmer atmosphere the beginning had, the fuller arrangement featured in the second half of the song certainly sounds great as well. A perfect choice for an a-side.

Ticket once again opens with a piano, this time with strings accompanying it, but it eventually leads into a much fuller arrangement with a more upbeat sound, featuring similar instruments to what were used in Pocket. Otsuka's voice sounds great in the verse, with maybe a few shakes at the beginning, but they don't seem to fit the chorus as well as they could, as they use the same key as the verse. It doesn't sound as bad in the second chorus, but that could be after getting used to it from the first chorus. After the second chorus, there's a rather enjoyable instrumental that has a heavy focus on the violin, followed by the final verse and a chorus that features less instruments for the first half before going back to normal, and closing with a short, three-second piano solo. It's a nice contrast to Pocket as a whole.

Closing the single is LIFE - LOVE CiRCLE. It starts with a short guitar and drum-based solo, before Otsuka comes in with some rather prominent male back-up vocals, and a slight change in her voice. It sounds a bit deeper than it did in Ticket, which is good. However, there's a lot of repetition in the lyrics in the song, and they sound a bit... Odd at this point, especially if you don't know what they mean. It's definitely the poppiest song on the single, and it wins points for that, but it's definitely b-side material. Interesting note, I couldn't for the life of me tell that this song was in total English. That's sone bad Engrish right there.

This is a great single from Otsuka. While the second b-side could have been better, both Pocket and Ticket were very enjoyable, and they worked well next to each other through the use of similar instruments and a reminiscent sound despite the differences in tone. A great way to start this era. Hopefully she steers clear from excessive English or learns to speak it better, because as much as I love Otsuka, LOVE - LIFE CiRCLE was just a bad example of the language being used in the Japanese music scene. It's still a good song, but you can just barely understand it. Anyway, it's a great single.
