The gesture of holding up one hand, signaling a person to stop speaking.

If you've ever had this done to you, I'm sure you felt pretty frustrated or even insulted at the audacity of the person doing the stopping. Right? It's like saying, "you don't need to finish what you are saying, because what you are saying has no importance, regardless of the subject matter." It's the subtle middle finger of the WASPS. No offense to the humble, waspy people.

Do not do it. Please. If you are arguing with someone, and you need them to breathe, two hands is sufficient. It means 'slow down', or, 'I'm not carrying a weapon' (hey man it's cool). When you hold up that single hand, you're claiming superiority. And that's not cool.

W.a.s.p. - The Crimson Idol. Niin siirappimaista, mutta ytimiin uppoavaa. Ajassa pari vuotta taakse päin minulla oli vaikea hetki elämässä ja kerran yhtenä iltana yksinäisyydessäni itkin täysillä levyn kahdeksannen kappaleen, The Idolin tahtiin. Jälkeen päin se on naurattanut minua kovasti.

En oikein käsitä kysymystä, mutta jotkin julkaisematta jääneet biisit ja demot Madonnalta ja Kissiltä voitaisi tallentaa/ levyttää. Tai mikä estäisi lisäämästä julkaisemattomia mukaan vaikkapa kokoelma levyihin.

Nyt juuri ei tule mitään muuta mieleeni kuin Nightwishin, Dark Passion Play. Perustelen sen sillä, että en pidä bändin laulajan, Anette Olzonin äänestä. Vaikka en kaipaa sen puoleen Turustakaan takaisin.

Part two of a five-part series that I am doing this week on local L.A. bands in the ‘80s that were opening acts on some big gigs at my favorite venue as a kid – Perkin’s Palace in Pasadena California.

It isn’t often that a bass player is the body and soul of a band…but like the band Talas, this was an exception. Bassist Rik Fox had just been let go from L.A. “should have beens”, Steeler. Fox, who was also in the first generation of WASP (which he also penned the band name) knew just about every big name in the Hollywood rock scene. With Steeler and WASP now behind him, it was time for Fox to form his own band – SIN. Musically, SIN’s approach was a cross between Angel and Judas Priest.

The line-up was made up of relatively unknown L.A. players: Carl James (drums); Howard Drossin (guitar); Vince Gilbert (keyboards); and Art Deresh (vocals). Art Deresh was a pretty good singer, but there was a big rumor going around that he was hygienically challenged. In other words, this guy was 'stinky! People complained and talked about it all the time. Unfortunately, I discovered this for myself first hand one night at an after party at his home…that was some wicked B.O.!!

SIN quickly became one of the fastest rising new bands on the L.A. rock scene, playing a handful of gigs at Perkin’s Palace. Having Rik Fox and SIN open for his former band Steeler that night at Perkin’s Palace was a bold move by the promoter. There was a lot of tension and a lot of curiosity in the audience – this could have opened up a huge can of worms. All the bands killed that night. It was another amazing lineup and quite a bargain at only $7.00.

There's a trope in bad movies and TV shows that's almost as common as guy-being-tortured-spits-in-his-tormenter's-face. In this scenario, a man and a woman are about to climb into bed together, when the woman pulls out a pair of handcuffs and smiles. The guy's all like, oh yeah, do it to me, you naughty girl. And, of course, as soon as as he's cuffed to the bed, she turns out to be working for the other side, and she pulls a gun on him, or calls the cops, or steals his money, or whatever. This scene always makes me want to shout at the screen, "You're a secret agent, for God's sake! How stupid do you have to be to let a strange woman tie you up?" Also, I doubt that many men really love being constrained during sex. I've always thought bondage was kind of, you know, kind of lame.

But all that's changed now. In the latest issue of Mighty Avengers, Brian Michael Bendis once again refuses to advance the plot. Once again he gives us an issue-long flashback. This time it's Henry Pym, Yellowjacket, who has moved to London with Janet after the whole Avengers:Disassembled fiasco. In one perfect little scene at the beginning, Bendis sums up their whole dysfunctional relationship: she's been out drinking with fashionistas while he's been in front of his computer all night. Finally she's had enough and she takes off. Pym, in retaliation, shacks up with a beautiful little science-groupie who seems too good to be true, and is. We see her pumping him for information. We see her finally reveal herself and pound him into the floor. We see how a Skrull literally wraps herself in her new identity. We see that the whole Ultron Initiative was actually a ploy to get a handle on Stark's new tech. And we see "Pym" give a very special gift to his ex-wife.

In other words, Bendis teases us the entire issue without ever getting back to the main storyline, giving us just enough to make us want more, to beg for more. He has us tied up, and I love it. I am now, officially, Brian Michael Bendis' bitch.

The Secret Invasion is up there with the Kree-Skrull War, with the Mr. Mind saga, with Starlin's Warlock, and this issue is another key piece in the whole grand puzzle. (Grade: A+)

A Second Opinion

For me, this the team that worked on this issue is a dream. It doesn't get much better than this. And as enamored as I am with said creative team, I have to disagree with my comrade on his assessment of this issue. Sure, it's a good issue - heck it's a great issue, but I wouldn't say it's one of the best things I've read this year. The reason I say this is because I wouldn't call this a true stand-alone story. Yes, it deals with just one character in particular, but overall, this is just another piece of the Secret Invasion puzzle.

What makes this book excellent is that it shows how clever Brian Bendis is. The seeds he's planted over the past year are finally sprouting and as you can expect, there's a reason for everything. Each plot, no matter how throw away they've been (like that female Ultron storyline), suddenly becomes legitimate. This is another "connecting the dots" issue that clearly shows how Earth's Mightiest Heroes (and us readers) have been played for fools. It also finally answers the question if the real Ant-Man has always been the abusive husband or if his Skrull counterpart is. So is it worth picking up? Most definitely. The story is engaging and the art, pure Romita Jr. "goodness". (Grade: A-)

From allmusic.com: Arthur "Killer" Kane was best known as the bassist with the seminal proto-punk band the New York Dolls, and in a band that was plagued by bad luck throughout their career, Kane was arguably the most luckless Doll of all, though the fates were kind enough to give Kane a bittersweet storybook ending in the last weeks of his life. Kane was born on February 3, 1949, in the Bronx, New York, and had a difficult childhood -- his mother died young, and his relationship with his father was contentious and sometimes abusive. As a teenager, Kane developed a keen interest in rock & roll, and in 1971 he joined a band called Actress with guitarists Johnny Thunders and Rick Rivets and drummer Billy Murcia. In the spring of 1972, Rivets left the band, they gained two new members -- Sylvain Sylvain on guitar and David Johansen on lead vocals -- and the group adopted a new name, the New York Dolls. Pushing the flashy androgyny of glam rock to the limit and playing raw rock & roll with more passion than polish and a heavy dose of streetwise attitude, the Dolls weren't like anyone else around at the time, and they earned a wildly passionate following with a series of gigs at a downtown performance space called the Mercer Art Center. By November 1972, word about the band had spread to the United Kingdom, and they were invited to play two gigs opening for the Faces at Wembley Arena in London, but Murcia died in a drug-related incident while in England, and though Jerry Nolan soon stepped in to replace him, Murcia's passing saddled the band with a well-deserved reputation for recreational excess.The New York Dolls scored a record deal in 1973 and released their self-titled debut album that year, but while they were celebrated by the rock cognoscenti, they never came close to breaking through to mainstream acceptance, and as the band was scheduled to hit the road following the release of their aptly titled second album, 1974's Too Much Too Soon, Kane was involved in a bizarre incident in which his girlfriend attempted to cut off part of his thumb so he couldn't go on the road. While Kane was unable to play and roadie Peter Jordan took his place, the Dolls took him on the road anyway, but group solidarity fell by the wayside after the band was dropped by their record label and the group fell apart following a tour of Florida in the spring of 1975; later that year, a makeshift version of the band toured Japan, but Kane was not invited to participate. By this time, Kane had developed serious problems with alcohol and drugs, and while he fielded a number of short-lived bands, including the Corpse Grinders (featuring future W.A.S.P. frontman Blackie Lawless), L.O.K., and the Idols (with Jerry Nolan and Rick Rivets), none of his groups managed to achieve more than a mild buzz on the New York Club scene, and in the 1980s Kane relocated to Los Angeles. Sadly, he had no better luck there than in New York, beyond a memorable 1987 gig in which he sat in with Johnny Thunders and Jerry Nolan, and in 1989 he attempted suicide by jumping from the window of his apartment; however, his flat was on the second floor, and he only succeeded in hurting himself. While in the hospital, Kane saw a television commercial offering a free copy of the Book of Mormon to anyone who requested it; he impulsively asked for a copy, and to his surprise two missionaries from the church delivered it in person. To the surprise of many, Kane embraced the Mormon faith, gave up drugs and alcohol, and eventually took a modest job with the church's genealogy library in Los Angeles. While Kane seemed happier and healthier living the straight life, he never gave up his dream that one day the Dolls would reunite, and he had his late bandmates Johnny Thunders and Jerry Nolan baptized posthumously in the Mormon faith. In 2004, Kane's seemingly impossible dream came true when Morrissey, the iconic Smiths frontman and former president of the New York Dolls' British fan club, asked the band to reunite as part of the annual Meltdown Festival at London's Royal Festival Hall. Kane joined Johansen, Sylvain, and a handful of guest musicians for a rapturously received set of Dolls classics on June 16, 2004, and a camera crew led by Mormon filmmaker Greg Whiteley was on hand to document the show, in which a beaming Johansen described Kane as "the miracle of God's creation." The Dolls were deluged with offers to play the major music festivals, but after returning from London, Kane fell ill; convinced he had a bad case of the flu aggravated by exhaustion, he checked himself into a hospital on July 13, 2004. Two hours later, doctors diagnosed Kane as suffering from advanced leukemia, and by the end of the day he had died. The reunited Dolls continued to perform, pausing during each show to pay homage to their departed bassist, and Whiteley's fine film about Kane, New York Doll, was released in 2005. - Mark Deming

  Slug ... so gross!  Crushed eggshells to whoop his slimy self!   Ok.... so I photoshot the slug and decided to snap some shots of other bugs that were buzzing around - now keep in mind, this is only one day and maybe a total of an hour.  Can you image the pictures of bugs I would have if I camped out in the gardens for a day!

Jael screamed again, this time as she ran out of the shed, crying. Two black hornet or wasp-like insects following her. Israel scooped her up and ran her about twenty feet away. We quickly examined Jael and found only three stings (I know, "only" three but it could have been so much worse). She had two on her leg and one on her arm. We had just finished our Italsian Sodas and had about two inches of crushed ice in the bottom of each cup. We pressed the ice against the stings as an associate from the Garden Center came over to see if we needed help. She offered their first aid kit, which contained a sting treatment. We took her up on her offer and headed inside.

Once inside, Israel carried Jael to the service counter where we applied some alcohol/lidocaine wipes to the stings and continued to ice them, with the aid of an ice pack. Jael's sobs had decreased into simple sniffles and the swelling of the stings was going down. We were very glad of this as her grandfather was horribly allergic as a child and we were not sure as to Jael's reaction to stings.

So, the good news, which was received painfully, is that Jael is no more allergic to wasp/hornet stings than the next person.

Oh, and Lowe's, at least in D'Iberville, on that day, had great customer service. We actually had a number of employees ask if we needed help and they were very kind. Of course, I realize they were simply lawsuit-proofing themselves but I don't care. A smile and a kind word are always appreciated.

To be honest, this one doesn't deserve any more space than it is getting. If it wasn't for the awesome (its a love or hate thing I know) artwork by Joe Mad and Christian Lichtner I would have dropped this one after the first issue. The storyline is a mess featuring too many characters, Jeph Loeb's dialogue is hilariously cliché, campy, and one-note, and I am fairly certain characters are acting wildly out of character. This is easily one of the worst things I have read since getting back into comics. If the artwork wasn't so fun to look at, I would have to consider this a complete and utter failure at every level. (Grade: D)

I have no idea where this book is going anymore. And to think it's going to wrap up next issue is just unthinkable. The only thing I can make a wager on is that it's going to say, "To be continued in Ultimatum" at the end of issue #5. There's just too many subplots and dangling threads (that have been randomly conjured up, no less) to be wrapped up in another 22 pages of story. This series has done nothing but sullen The Ultimates brand and lower the integrity of the creative team. Joe Mad's art is the only reason why people are buying this turd, because the story is a convoluted mess and the coloring is still too dark. Why he would want to be associated with a piece of garbage like this is beyond me. At least with Hulk, I know that Jeph Loeb is purposely writing a bad story for the hell of it. Here, there's just no excuse. Even the cover sucks. (Grade: F+)

موسقی ساخته شده در این آلبوم، هر شنونده ای را به یاد آهنگ های کلاسیک W.A.S.P می اندازد چرا که در باطن تماما آلبومی به سبک W.A.S.P است. علاقمندان سینه چاک گروه مسلما لذت زیادی خواهد دچارشان شد. نواهای نواخته شده، نواهای سنتی گروه است.

آلبوم با آهنگ "رحمت"³ آغاز شده است و مجموعه ای از شکنجه هایی است برای جرج بوش تا او را به زار زدن بیاندازد. در آهنگ "راه زیادی برای رفتن است"⁴ مستقیما بوش را مورد عنایت قرار می دهد، او را حرام.زاده خونخواری می نامد که آینده ای نامعلوم را برای سرزمینش رقم زده است.

از آهنگ های زیبا و تاثر برانگیز، آهنگ Heaven’s Hung in Black است که احساسات سربازی را بیان می کند که در عراق در حال مرگ است.

در ضمن این آلبوم تنها 43 دقیقه زمان دارد و من هم قصد ندارم که آن را اینجا به طور کامل تعریف کنم. بروید و گوش فرا دهید. اما آیا رئیس جمهورشان و رئیس جمهورمان دو روی یک سکه نیستند؟ تنها تفاوت در این است که آنها به راحتی حق فریاد زدن انتقادهایشان را دارند و ما نه!
